MG Philippines Previews 2024 MG One Compact Crossover

MG, under SAIC Motor Philippines, may be gaining attention thanks to its aggressive push into battery electric vehicles, but they didn’t forget their bread-and-butter internal combustion engine vehicle. Case in point is the 2024 MG One—a compact crossover that will slot between the MG ZS and MG HS in terms of price and positioning.

Expected to replace the RX5 in the local MG line-up, the MG One is said to have a price point not exceeding P 1.4-million. With its generous size and impressive kit, it will do battle against the likes of the Ford Territory and GAC Emkoo.

The MG One takes on the brand’s new “Dual Front Face” design also seen in the MG GT sports sedan. With that, it has a long sloping hood, large blacked out grille with a sinewy pattern, and shapely headlights with three-bar LED daytime running lights. At each corner are 19-inch alloy wheels, while at the back is its “Twin Aero” rear spoiler and a bumper with a built-in diffuser.

Now, the most important news for the MG One is that it’s the brand’s first truly global product. It will use the new SAIC Motor Intelligent Global Architecture or SIGMA platform.

Underneath, the MG One will have a turbocharged and direct injected 1.5-liter engine mated to CVT. Maximum outputs are pegged at 181 horsepower and 285 Nm of torque based on available global specs (nothing has been confirmed on the side of MG Philippines yet). Moreover, a rear multi-link suspension should deliver a stable and more comfortable ride perfect for urban dwellers—the MG One’s main target market.

The MG One measures in at 4,579 mm in length, 1,866 mm in width, and 1,601 mm in height. It sports a wheelbase of 2,670 mm, and with that, lands it squarely in the traditional compact SUV segment size-wise.

Inside, the MG One is loaded with tech such as a 30-inch wrap-around triple screen facing the driver, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a electronic shift lever, push-button start/stop, wireless device charger, and even a slew of driver assist systems such as a 360-degree camera.

SAIC Motor Philippines says they are targeting to launch the MG One in the first quarter of 2024. Expect it to be previewed or even launched at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) come April.

  3. MG One looks good
My guess it'll be more expensive than the MG HS Trophy
Most likely the updated MG HS is coming too in PHEV form next year
Emkoo,Territory and CS55 Plus are its rivals.
