The Hyundai Ioniq 5 Traveled 3,197 Kilometers On Just P 6,480 Of Charge

Hyundai has proven the capability and range of its Ioniq 5 by completing a five-country, 3,197-kilometer journey across Southeast Asia.

The Ioniq 5 ASEAN Tour, which traveled through Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Cambodia, is meant to showcase the Ioniq 5’s reliability, eco-friendliness, and long-distance capabilities especially in Southeast Asia where many people remain skeptical of EVs.

As a bonus, the Ioniq 5 showcased remarkable cost efficiency, costing just USD 116 (P 6,479.30) per car to charge up for the entire journey. This is approximately two times more cost efficient in comparison to driving a conventional internal combustion engine vehicle despite a 446-kilometer deviation from the initial distance expected of the drive.

“Hyundai is fueled by an unwavering commitment to innovation and shaping the future of mobility – a commitment that reverberates in every action we take,” exclaimed Youngtack Lee, President of Hyundai Motor ASEAN HQ. “Our dedication to making electric vehicles more accessible as the definitive clean mobility solution of tomorrow has taken a giant leap forward. Witnessing the tremendous success and excitement generated by the Ioniq 5 ASEAN Tour, we are propelled to intensify our comprehensive innovation aimed at fortifying the EV infrastructure and ecosystem across the region. The journey may have concluded, but the electric excitement has just begun.”

The ASEAN tour comprised of five vehicles, two of which are manufactured in Indonesia and three from Singapore.

Even during the challenging stretch from Cambodia to Vietnam where charging stations remain limited, the Ioniq 5 had an impressive range, boasting around 50 percent of battery life remaining despite a full day’s worth of driving. It also showed off its Vehicle-to-Load or V2L technology which transformed the vehicles in power hubs—giving participants unique culinary experiences, musical performances, and even a mini cinema.

  1. The amount shouldn't be directly converted to Php. It should be kwh spent multiplied by Meralco rates for a start.

Funny that they didn't mention how long the journey took. Probably 5-8 years based on charging times lol

    1. The cost is based on the kWh of the five countries visited by the Ioniq 5 and where they charged. Hyundai didn't give the cost per kWh. As for the trip itself, it took 11 days. This includes cultural side trips and all.

    2. 60kwh battery × 10hrs charging x 4x a month × php12 / kwh meralco rate
Thats a whopping php 29k per month electricity bill.
      Numbers dont lie.
      Any mathematician in the house?..

  2. Sure evs are cheaper to run, but how about the time difference. Time is gold. A bike is essentially free to run if you have all the time in the world.

  3. Some light should be shed here.
For example, a 60kwh EV car will take 10hrs to charge at 4x a week at php12 per kwh
Thats php 28,800 per month on your meralco bill.
This is also the same sentiments my EV owner friends keep saying.
    Some lights please.
