Lexus LBX, Volvo EX30 Headline 2024 Singapore Motor Show

Two luxury subcompact crossovers are making their ASEAN debuts at the Singapore Motor Show. Presented by the Motor Traders Association of Singapore in partnership with Mediacorp, the 16th Singapore Motor Show is happening from Thursday, January 11 to Sunday, January 14 at Level 3 and 4 of the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Making their debuts in the region are the Lexus LBX and the Volvo EX30.

The Lexus LBX or Lexus Breakthrough Crossover (read our first look or watch our drive) will become Lexus’s first model to be classified under Singapore’s lowest Certificate of Entitlement (COE) bracket of Cat A. The LBX rides on Toyota’s GA-B platform—something it shares with the GR Yaris—but modified to ensure the control, comfort, and confidence afforded by the Lexus Driving Signature. It comes with an electrified 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine making 136 horsepower. Despite being a gateway model, it mimics the feel of a higher segment model with features including a 12.3-inch full digital gauge cluster, a 9.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 13-speaker Mark Levinson system.

Meanwhile, the Volvo EX30 (read our feature) is set to be the Swedish premium carmaker’s new entry level model. Designed to have the lowest carbon footprint of any Volvo to date, it comes with three all-electric powertrains starting with a base 272 horsepower unit driving the rear wheels. At its most powerful, the 422 horsepower version rockets from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds. Donning Volvo’s trademark styling inside and out, the minimalist EX30 has innovative features including a soundbar speaker system which frees up space at the doors. It also comes with the new Park Pilot Assist. The system will identify any available parking spot and the EX30 will operate the throttle, brakes, and steering all autonomously be it in parallel, curved, perpendicular, or diagonal fishbone-style parking.

The Singapore Motor Show will also play host to the debut of two Chinese brands: Omoda and SRM.

In terms of concept cars, Mini will show off the Aceman Concept.

Russ Swift will also make his comeback at the Singapore Motor Show where he will once again show off his breathtaking skills. The Guinness World Record holder for parallel parking in tight spaces, will be showcasing his mind-boggling skills, including precision J-Turns and high-speed doughnuts.

“We are revving up for an exhilarating Singapore Motorshow 2024. Alongside stellar brand showcases and tempting promotions, visitors can expect show-stopping entertainment—edge-of-your-seat stunt driving, and celebrity appearances. This family-friendly event has something to thrill car enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. We invite all to join us next week at Suntec City for an unforgettable automotive experience embodying Singapore’s dynamic spirit,” said Mr. Glenn Tan, President, Motor Traders Association.

This year, Schneider Electric is joining Singapore Motorshow for the first time as the event’s official EV charger partner.
