A Premium European Brand Will Use Chery's Platform

A “premium European brand” will use a Chery Auto vehicle platform. This was revealed by the Chery Auto’s chairman, Yin Tongyue, during a product livestream event.

During the livestream event that showed off the brand’s new Exeed Exlantix ET SUV, Yin said: “Two premium European marques want to use our platform and a deal will be signed with one of them, a more premium brand than us.”

Yin did not give specifics, but he said that the deal will be signed during his trip to Europe this week.

In addition to the two brands with which Chery is finalizing partnerships, the state-owned automaker is in talks with two other brands over possible team-ups, Yin said.

Chery is nearing a deal to start building cars in Spain, its first manufacturing site in Europe. Talks are focused on Chery producing vehicles at the Barcelona plant that Nissan shut down in 2021.

In China, Chery has a joint venture with Jaguar Land Rover to build Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles in a factory in Changshu.

The Exeed Exlantix ET (lead photo) rides on Chery’s E0X all-electric vehicle platform. It supports both purely battery electric propulsion and extended range EV powertrains. The platform incorporates an 800-volt architecture—like the ones used by high-profile EVs such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Porsche Taycan.

The base model sports a single-motor 252-horsepower output, moving up to 313 horsepower. In all-wheel drive variants, the outputs go up to 480 horsepower and 561 horsepower for the top end.

The Exlantix ET is designed by Pier Luigi Ferrari and has features such as interactive LED lighting. This five-seater SUV is more on the massive side with a 4,955 mm length, 1,975 mm width, and 1,698 mm height. Its wheelbase is at a generous 3,000 mm.

  2. Chery developed their TIX platform with assistance from Jaguar Land Rover. So obviously they have a tie up already with these premium brands.

  3. I'd this is really the case, then Cheryl's reputation will improve and the European brand will be downgraded.
