Mercedes-Benz Philippines announces the arrival of the all-electric G-Class. The G 580 with EQ Technology, as the model is officially referred to, could be the next go-to ride of DPWH contractors who feel like they have a soft spot for the environment. And before they ask, it comes with a P 13.59-million introductory price tag. Chump change, all things considered.
At the heart of the G 580 with EQ Technology is a state-of-the-art electric powertrain built around a high-voltage modular lithium-ion battery. Comprising 216 cells across 12 modules, the battery offers a usable energy capacity of up to 116 kWh, all while weighing just 680 kilograms. This advanced setup delivers an impressive all-electric range of up to 473 kilometers, ensuring a confident, long-distance driving experience, perfect to survey potential flood control projects stretching from Manila to Baguio with some charge left to spare.
And when it comes to doing ocular inspections, they can rely on four individually controlled motors located near the wheels. Integrated into the ladder frame, they develop a combined 587 horsepower (432 kW) and 1,164 Nm of torque.
However, when some project anomaly is discovered, they can rely on the selectable low-range gear reduction and virtual differential locks to help them escape far into the jungle, out of the law’s reach. According to Mercedes-Benz, this helps the G-Class EV climb 100 percent grades, handle 35-degree lateral slopes, and ford through water that’s 850 mm deep—more than the gas-powered G-Class models and, more importantly, all PNP police cruisers.
Plus, the G 580 EQ also has unique driving functions for off-road use like G-Turn and G-Steering.
G-Turn allows the luxury SUV to rotate while stationary, using its four independently driven wheels. That said, a bit of a warning to these contractors: there are three caveats. First, it can only be done on a suitably loose surface. Then, the driver needs to follow the exact procedural steps for it to work. Lastly, it will only do two complete turns before the function is deactivated.
Meanwhile, G-Steering uses all four motors at each wheel to drastically reduce its turning radius. It can only be used in low-range with its Rock mode engaged, and at low speeds.
Adding to the immersive experience is G-Roar, which gives the all-electric G-Class a bold, signature sound presence both inside and out. And for added safety, the Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) comes standard, ensuring the vehicle remains audible to pedestrians and cyclists when G-Roar is disabled.
Inside, the G 580 with EQ Technology features all the opulence tax money can possibly buy. It has dual 12.3-inch displays, one as a fully digital, customizable instrument cluster, and the other as a central touchscreen for infotainment. Both are powered by the intuitive Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system, offering advanced voice control, and seamless wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The immersive Burmester 3D surround sound system can help them drown out any incoming call pointing them to attend a Senate investigation.
If a G-Class doesn’t attract enough attention, the G 580 with EQ Technology comes with the AMG Line package. This infuses the iconic G-Class silhouette with a bold touch of sporty sophistication. Exterior highlights include brake calipers with Mercedes-Benz lettering, a striking radiator grille in silver chrome, a silver chrome bumper insert that adds refined contrast and visual impact, and 20-inch 10-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels.
Heads up, all DPWH contractors, the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology is now available for orders at all Mercedes-Benz dealerships nationwide.

Saw the price list and the G63 is on a staggering 24m. Is the g500 (550) inline 6 not available locally? Not that I can afford, just curious.
ReplyDeleteThe Jimny is better and far cheaper.
DeleteCheck out the Jimny. In Australia it beat all the other 4 wheel drive vehicles in a tough exercise.
DeleteWhy the random Jimny recommendations? Customers for the G-Class and those for the Jimny aren't looking for the same things.
DeleteThat's probably because the poster wants a G-Class but could only afford a Jimny
DeleteMore than 10 for an electric BEV with Lithium-ion batteries? Not worth it. Better wait for solid-state batteries.
ReplyDeleteVery expensive and the Suzuki Jimny beat it in a contest about 2 years ago.
ReplyDeleteBuy this or any g class. Wait for Kupita sancheez to interview you and glaze you in the stupid show.
ReplyDeletelet's see if the philippines makes it also as the country with most g580 allocation
ReplyDeleteYeah..naahhh.
DeleteThis is a flop in China, hardly any sales
ReplyDeleteInteresting and funny way this was written. Most mortals won't be able to afford this thing.
ReplyDeleteMany will be able to afford this in the Philippines there so many flood projects to bid out
ReplyDeletekung tatago ung contractors sa gubat, its better to buy gas or diesel power off the road cars or pickup car, para no problem sila sa charging kasi wala electric sa forest.
ReplyDeleteAt kung napili ng contractors ay pickup cars or off road car like baic b80 wagon for company, aside sa hocus pokus profit sa works, they save 8 million to 10 million each cars they purchase, they deserve to get another reward or award by their boss for saving millions pesos for each cars they purchase.
