Suzuki Auto PH Reveals Key Fronx Specs As Order Books Open On August 20

Suzuki Philippines will open reservations for its upcoming Fronx sub-compact SUV on Wednesday, August 20. Before that, the carmaker revealed more key information, including its powertrain for the local market.

The name, “Fronx” is a portmanteau of “Frontier” and “Next,” and it signifies Suzuki’s decision to enter the competitive, but fast-growing sub-B SUV segment against the likes of the Toyota Raize, Kia Sonet, and the yet-to-be-launched Nissan Magnite.

Being a small car specialist, the Fronx is yet another “cute” SUV offering from Suzuki. With that, it measures in at 3,995 mm in length,1,765 mm in width, and 1,550 mm in height. Its wheelbase, at 2,520 mm is in the sweet spot, size-wise. Its listed curb weight is 1,060 kilograms.

For the Philippine market, it’s confirmed to receive the K15C DualJet engine with the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki or SHVS mild-hybrid system. The DualJet system means it uses two injectors per cylinder to deliver a more precise fuel delivery, resulting in better efficiency and combustion. This is combined with a higher compression ratio (12:1).

Although it doesn’t get recognition as a hybrid, its 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine is boosted by an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and a 12-volt lithium-ion battery system. All in all, it makes about 103 horsepower and 137 Nm of torque. This is mated to a 6-speed automatic with cruise control (adaptive on the Fronx SGX).

The Fronx receives a coupe-style-like design. Its modern, bold presence is accentuated by its compound LED headlight design with a separate daytime running light assembly as well as standard polished 16-inch alloy wheels with 195/60R16 tires. Inside, the Fronx receives soft-touch paneling, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, and a floating-style infotainment system.

Meanwhile, the Fronx SGX variant receives a heads-up display, a 9-inch infotainment screen with 6 speakers, tilt/telescopic steering adjustment, automatic climate control with rear vents, a wireless charger, a 4.2-inch color-type display nestled in the meter cluster, and leather seats.

Standard on all Fronx variants include 6 SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program with hill hold control. A 360-degree camera makes parking a breeze.

The top-trim Fronx SGX builds on that with standard ADAS which the brand calls Suzuki Safety Support. This bundles Dual Sensor Brake Support II (DSBS II—Suzuki speak for forward collision warning + autonomous emergency braking), Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane Keep Assist, Weaving Alert, and a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

With Suzuki opening reservations for the all-new Fronx this coming week, its official market launch shouldn’t be more than a couple of weeks away.

Stay tuned for more (official) info real soon.
