Just as Suzuki Auto Philippines closed advanced reservations for the its latest vehicle, the all-new Fronx sub-compact SUV, dealers have started posting what looks to be the official prices ahead of its official reveal on September 12.
First previewed at Suzuki’s 50th anniversary celebrations in the Philippines, the name Fronx stands for “Frontier” and “Next.” As Suzuki’s entry in the sub-B SUV segment, it’ll go against the likes of the Toyota Raize, Kia Sonet, and even endless slew of Chinese SUVs.
The Fronx measures in at 3,995 mm in length,1,765 mm in width, and 1,550 mm in height. Its wheelbase, at 2,520 mm is in the sweet spot, size-wise.
Previously, the K15C DualJet with the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) mild-hybrid system has been confirmed for the local market. The DualJet system means it uses two injectors per cylinder to deliver a more precise fuel delivery, resulting in better efficiency and combustion. This is combined with a higher compression ratio (12:1). Together with an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and a 12-volt lithium-ion battery, this powertrain makes 103 horsepower and 137 Nm of torque. This is mated to a 6-speed automatic with cruise control—adaptive in the top-of-the-line SGX variant.
Interestingly, because Suzuki Auto Philippines couldn’t get the DOE to recognize the SHVS as a hybrid, they’ve also opted to bring in a non-hybrid option as well. This base powertrain uses the tried-and-tested K15B and here, it produces 105 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque. It also loses two forward gears, getting a 4-speed automatic instead.
The decision to offer both hybrid and non-hybrid powertrains for the local market means Suzuki could cast a wider net in terms of price. If the dealer bulletin is to be believed, the Fronx is priced as such:
- Fronx GL AT – P 1,059,000
- Fronx Hybrid GLX AT – P 1,219,000
- Fronx Hybrid GLX AT (2-Tone) – P 1,229,000
- Fronx Hybrid SGX AT (2-Tone) – P 1,299,000
In terms of colors, the Fronx comes in five color combinations, two of which are monotone and three of which are two-tone:
- Snow White Pearl (ZQZ) – GL, GLX
- Magma Gray Metallic (ZYZ) – GL, GLX
- Ice Grayish Blue + Cool Black Pearl Metallic Roof (FD1) – GLX, SGX
- Savannah Ivory Metallic + Cool Black Pearl Metallic Roof (EYP) – GLX, SGX
- Snow White Pearl + Cool Black Pearl Metallic Roof (ET5)
Building on that, both hybrid variants sport a 4.2-inch multi-info display. Fabrics seats are standard save for the SGX which gets leather upholstery. Both the GLX and SGX get a 9-inch infotainment screen, six speakers, and an automatic climate control with rear vents. Only the SGX, however, has a wireless charger.
Standard on all Fronx variants include 6 SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program with hill hold control. A rear parking camera comes with the GL and GLX, but the SGX has a 360-degree camera to making parking a breeze.
In addition, the top-trim Fronx SGX has standard ADAS which the brand calls Suzuki Safety Support. This bundles Dual Sensor Brake Support II (DSBS II—Suzuki speak for forward collision warning + autonomous emergency braking), Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane Keep Assist, Weaving Alert, and a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Suzuki PH's pricing is out of whack. Fronx should be priced in line with the Raize and Sonet.

ReplyDeleteFronx is neither here nor there. Its category is the same size as Raize, Sonet, Tiggo Cross, GX3 Pro, Tiggo2 Pro, CS-15 and Magnite. Price-wise, it is in the range of Groove, Kicks, Creta, Yaris Cross, Seltos, Jolion, ZS, G3 Emzoom, Coolray, 06 and CS-35. I don't see its value proposition over competition just yet. Sadly even its hybrid exemption is not in play unlike its Ertiga and Dzire brood.
