Is Hyundai Plotting The Return Of The Veloster? The Concept Three Shows The Way

Hyundai is growing its Ioniq EV sub-brand with the preview of an upcoming compact hatchback via the Concept Three. And yes, it’s easy to see some Veloster vibes going on here.

The Concept Three signals Hyundai’s EV expansion into the small car space, complementing its mid-size (Ioniq 5 and 6) and large (Ioniq 9) models. The Concept Three answers the surging demand, at least in Europe, for small EVs driven by urbanization, sustainability regulations, and the growing need for space-efficient solutions.

While an outrageous design concept for now, the Concept Three will likely preview a production Ioniq 3 which will take on a “aero hatch” look. Like the Ioniq 6 before it, the Ioniq 3 is all about delivering aero efficiency thanks to its distinctive roofline and vertical tailgate.

The Art of Steel, Hyundai’s main design language of late, is all about flowing volumes and precise lines. The Tungsten Gray exterior color further highlights that. Meanwhile, the Parametric Pixel—a lighting element found in other Hyundai Ioniq models—has been made even more expressive thanks to a gradient that adds depth and visual rhythm.

Like the Insteroid Concept, the Concept Three has a sort-of character. Mr. Pix, as it’s called, is integrated throughout the car evoking curiosity, joy, and emotional connection. This offers a playful storytelling element through “hidden surprises” and interactive design elements.

The showcase of the Concept Three is just the start of Hyundai’s strong push towards electrified vehicles. By 2027, the Korean automaker aims to offer each of its vehicles with an electrified version. Meanwhile 21 EV models will be made available globally by 2030.

  1. Just being it back! It's a cool car. Looks like a sports car drom the driver's side and a normal car from the other side.
