Radar Enters The Philippines With RD6 EV, PHEV Pickup Trucks (w/ Specs)

United Asia Automotive Group, Inc., the official distributor of Foton, Chery, BAIC, and Lynk & Co, adds another brand to their portfolio with Radar. This is a lifestyle focused brand that so far only has one model in their lineup: the R6 pickup. UAAGI brought in the 2 iterations of the RD6 to try and get a slice of the changing pickup market.

The biggest difference of the Radar RD6 against the status quo is its body. The RD6 is built on a unibody frame like a sedan or crossover and unlike other pickups in the country that are body-on-frame. All models also have a multi-link suspension for the rear unlike its rivals that usually have leaf-springs. There wasn’t a test drive opportunity at launch, but Radar Auto Philippines promises a much better riding and driving experience.

The entry to the RD6 family starts with the Radar RD6 Econ model. This is a battery-electric pickup that’s meant to be more rugged and perform classic pickup duties. It comes in three different battery trims: 63 kWh 4x2, 73 kWh 4x2, and 73 kWh 4x4.

The 4x2 trims have a total of 245 horsepower of power and 309 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the 4x4 has up to 381 horsepower with its torque rated at 485 Nm. They come with Eco, Comfort, and Sport modes while the 4x4 has additional Snow, Mud, and Off-Road modes.

As for range, the base trim can go up to 327 kilometers, the 73kWh 4x2 at 383 kilometers, while the 4x4 can go for 350 kilometers. They also come with Vehicle-to-Load function and a 2-kW portable charger.

The RD6 Econ measures 5,260 mm long (5,500 mm for the 73kWh 4x2), 1,900 mm wide, 1,865 mm tall, and has a ground clearance of 220 mm (4x4 has 225 mm). The 4x2 models have a 955-kilogram payload capacity while the 4x4 can carry up to 1,160 kilograms. It also has a turning radius of 6.1m while water wading capability is at 815 mm.

As for amenities, the RD6 Econ comes with Automatic Halogen Projector headlights with manual height adjustment, LED daytime running lights, power adjustable side mirrors, LED taillights, and tailgate assist. The cargo bed also has a roll bar and STC wear-resistant bedliner. Inside there's an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, 8-inch touchscreen, leather seats, single zone climate control, and push start button. This goes for all trims of the RD6 Econ.

Safety is also standard across the range. There’s a reverse camera with dynamic guidelines, rear parking sensors, cruise control, front airbags, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

The Radar RD6 BEV prices:
  • Radar RD6 BEV 63 kWh 4x2 – P 1,398,000 (Introductory Price: P 1,358,000)
  • Radar RD6 BEV 73kWh 4x2 – P 1,598,000 (Introductory Price: P 1,548,000)
  • Radar RD6 BEV 73 kWh 4x4 – P 1,748,000 (Introductory Price: P 1,698,000)

Another thing that makes Radar different is their EV is the more attainable model while the more premier one is a plug-in hybrid. All trims of the RD6 EM-P are All-Wheel Drive and are powered by two electric motors paired to a 1.5-liter turbo engine. Power is at 463 horsepower and 659 Nm of torque. They all have 3-speed DHT sending power to the wheels, while Drive Modes include Eco, Smart/Comfort, Sport, Snowfield, Mud, Off-Road, Sand.

Range is also standard across the range. All of them have 82 kilometers of EV only range while combined with the engine, the RD6 EM-P can go more than 1,000 kilometers.

The components of the RD6 EM-P are also a step above the Econ line. It has automatic LED projector headlights with manual height adjustment, LED daytime running light, power folding side mirrors, roof rails, tailgate assist, retractable tailgate step, and cargo bed light and outlets.

The cabin is also more modern than that of the Econ model. There’s a huge 14.6-inch touchscreen at the center of the dash with wireless Apple CarPlay, while the instrument cluster is also bigger at 10.2-inch fully digital. Both front seats are power adjustable while the driver has additional 5-memory seat function. It also has a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and rear air vents.

The RD6 EM-P is also a lot safer. It’s available with side, curtain, and side curtain airbags. There’s also Advanced Driver Assist System that’s rated to be Level 2. It includes 540-degree camera system, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, front and rear collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping system, and rear cross traffic alert among others.

  1. Radar luxury 1.898M vs byd shark premium 2.298M. A whooping 400k difference, all byd offerings here in PH were currently targeted by comrades with more features and tech but at significantly lower prices. AC BYD dreams of 77 dealerships not feasible anymore😔😔😔

    1. Radar is not ladder frame. its just visually a pick up truck lol

    2. Byd shark in trouble. Useless pickup with only 600kg payload. Byd shark also a gas guzzler after battery depleted. This geely is more durable and economical.

    3. Of course, its a lifestyle pick up and not a workhorse. if you want a workhorse just buy a ladder frame DIESEL pick up and not an EV or PHEV pick up.

    4. Everybody expected BYDs he re will be a lot more expensive than in China because of A.Y.A.L.A.
Now let's see how BYD will respond to these other Chinese car's much lower price offerings, and deal with Ayala's pricing strategy.

  5. BYD's PHEV has terrible quality, even in china BYD's PHEV sales nosedived. if you really want a byd just buy their EV

    1. Using purely sales as a metric for quality is not very scientific. Subaru for example had their sales here nosedive as well but no one associates that with their quality.

    2. Subaru is pricy, BYD PHEV lousy

    3. What exactly has been noted/shown about their PHEVs that count as terrible quality/lousy? Is the fuel efficiency not good? Is it the power delivery? Does it need frequent repairs or something?

If you want to be taken seriously in a car-related discussion you have to be specific. Like when people talk about Ford's wet belt tech causing issues, or X brand's Y parts are prone to Z issues.

    4. Here in PH too sensetive ADAS it becomes liability than helpful, thin sunroof cover, many glitches. The worst were engines suddenly stop working.

If you are the original commenter for Oct 7 11:01 AM then it makes me scratch my head why you would bother to recommended their BEVs over their PHEVs if mostly software ang issues (if they are true) given that, I would assume, they use the same software across their vehicles. Also, given the number of owners of their PHEVs that have owned the cars for near/over a year already problems like these don't seem to have made the noise that it should if they were common.

It's definitely possible that issues may exist but you have to account for how common they are. For perspective, 1 in 10,000 cars having really bad problems is still a 99.99% quality score, kahit 1 in 1,000 nalang is still 99.9% overall. Problems should be presenting in much larger numbers if they are to legitimately reflect quality issues. Also, software issues (for me) are much easier to accept since they are an update-to-fix thing vs the physical repair needs of mechanical parts.

  6. Man, if only they had a model closer size-wise to (or even smaller than) the Ford Maverick...
