Subaru Ditches Flying Car Nonsense And Goes Back To What Matters The Most: Driving

Subaru is the latest brand to reveal their exhibition concept at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show and this year, it’s all about reverting back to “Driving the Subaru Difference.”

After coming out with some crazy concepts in the past (including a flying car), Subaru has thankfully brought things back to earth. In the brand’s parlance, “Driving the Subaru Difference” means catering to two different kinds of customers. One is about Performance and another is about Adventure.

For the Performance scene, Subaru and its high-performance STI division will hold the world premiere of two concept cars—the Performance-E STI Concept and the Performance-B STI Concept.

As its name suggests, the first one is a battery electric vehicle that represents what Subaru thinks is the future of performance. It combines “thrilling” aesthetic proportions with outstanding aerodynamics and practicality, with a design that evokes the brand’s heritage while providing a driver-friendly layout and a comfortable, spacious interior.

On the other hand, the second one is all about keeping the trademark Boxer engine base intact. This one is all about balancing performance and power with practicality. By flexibly incorporating the assets Subaru has honed over many years, including a horizontally-opposed engine and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

Meanwhile, when it comes to the Adventure aspect, Subaru is displaying the North American Wilderness models in Japan for the first time. Making its debut is the Forester Wilderness as well as the all-new Outback Wilderness.

  2. Full time AWD for a city car is also nonsense, subaru. Youre adding too much complexity for a simple car that only adds cost and maintenance. Thats why your cars are so expensive.
