Honda Cars Philippines’ long tease to launch the all-new Prelude is making some dealers impatient. While the carmaker has yet to confirm its official price or even a release window (reservations open today), one enterprising Honda dealer has let the big cat out of the bag.
For those who’re heading to Honda Cars dealerships today to put down a reservation (P 100,000 minimum) on a brand-new Prelude, it will be priced at…drum roll…P 3,498,000. Eek. And if you want to get the new and exclusive color, Moonlit White Pearl, it commands an added P 20,000 premium. Double eek.
Given the listing came straight from a Honda Cars dealership (see the Facebook post below), we assume it’s 99.9 percent real. This is a big downer for fans or would-be buyers for the highly anticipated pseudo-sports flagship since it puts the Prelude not in GR 86 and MX-5 territory (its direct competitor performance-wise), but against the GR Yaris (P 3,391,000 to P 3,550,000), Nissan Z (P 3,988,000), and the Ford Mustang EcoBoost (P 3,506,000).
Now, we understand that Honda believes that their brand commands a premium somewhat, but who are they kidding? Even if they throw in a longer warranty or free service for the Prelude, it’s just priced way off market. For those who are old enough, it is giving memories of the CR-Z Hybrid. Whatever they’re smoking, we don’t want any of it. Bummer, bummer, bummer.
To recall, the Prelude returns as a hybrid grand touring coupe that mixes bits of the Civic RS e:HEV and the Civic Type R. It also debuts the Honda S+ Shift system wherein the E-CVT gearbox is able to produce virtual gear shifts in the form of visual, audio, and tactile signals such as meter display changes, virtual engine sounds, and even seat vibrations to create a more engaging driving experience.
At this point, we’re assuming Honda’s removing us from any Prelude-related activities moving forward, but if you’re still curious as to its full specs, here it is (based on a leak made last January).

I sensed the emotions behind that “HOLY CRAP” lol
ReplyDeleteThis thing is priced at around Php2.5M php equivalent in the US and yet US reviewers find it very expensive for what it is.
Pure greed in image making.
ReplyDeleteits hybrid so 0% import duty from japan instead of 30%
and even excise tax is 50% off from hybrid benefit
no reason for that to be expensive AF
Thanks for firmly and emphatically calling out Honda for their hallucinatory pricing. At this point, they are perpetually high on fumes say, since the current-gen Civic launched. Automotive journos are irksome sometimes for withholding adverse opinions when such observations matter in the car-buying process, fearing retaliation. Hence, we get mostly "praise" releases and almost 1:1 narration from the press kit. US car buyers are now negatively responding to high car prices. It's about time we take them to account for similar practices here.
ReplyDeleteTrue. If your read the same news from one prominent (local) site - zero comment about the pricing lol
DeleteThis car is so damn expensive. But its nice to have. I have no money.
ReplyDeleteGotta give it to Honda for consistency. The new Prelude is overpriced everywhere it's sold!
ReplyDeleteGR it is then!
ReplyDeleteIn the US, during the first full month of sales, the prelude sold only 174 units. For this year, January saw 216 units sold. Honda US supposedly wants to sell 4000 units a year but at this rate they will be far below that. Almost every reviewer I've seen points out the price as a major issue. 🫤
ReplyDeleteI expect discounts to come in soon. Yes the title says it right , holy crap!
ReplyDeletePrelude? More like Coda or Epilogue lol
ReplyDeletethey're really trying to market Honda as premium here in the PH huh. i think it'll sell out. lots of money circulating among the rich since no big flood control people have been jailed yet
ReplyDeleteThere's way more people who are rich enough to buy this car and aren't corrupt government officials. Not that they would buy this but there's a lot more of them than you seem to think.
DeleteThe current Honda Phils. Management is killing the brand with exorbitant prices with lacking features compare with other brands. The segment is shrinking and this won't help tsk tsk tsk. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHey. It's Honda Japan that decides these prices. They are getting the same complaints about pricing all around the world.
DeleteI hope we get official prices from. HONDA Philippines soon..
ReplyDeleteHonda is killing themselves, first the 2.8M Crv now this 3.5M Prelude. If I have that kind money I’ll get the mustang instead. Honda thinks they’re premium. Sorry but the only premium japanese brand here is Lexus, Mazda is an aspiring luxury brand, I would consider them over honda honestly.
ReplyDeleteHonda got away with its pricing of the current crv . Who knows it can get away with its prelude pricing …. Market is, after all desperate for the Prelude. This is the thinking Honda management
ReplyDeleteIsn’t it the best selling crv was the top of the line hev model according to local motor reports
ReplyDeleteWe are under estimating the Filipino purchasing power ha ha
I predict that just like the type R here, this will not depreciate. As a matter of fact, the value will increase!
ReplyDeleteMaybe if HCPI keeps it limited. The CTR actually underwent heavy discounting towards the end. The FK8, especially when HCPI turned it from a limited 100-unit run to a regular model.
DeleteOnly a rarefied few will appreciate over an extended period of time.
Delete2605mm wheelbase only but with a pickup's turning radius
