For 2027, Honda Gives S+ System To Civic RS HEV, Announces Updates To Prelude

After launching the fangled re-born Prelude (read our First Impressions) and its S+ Shift System, Honda quickly transplanted (as well as other Prelude bits) to the Civic RS e:HEV. First announced in January, the carmaker has now opened reservations for the new Civic in its home market of Japan.

What was once an exclusive feature to the Prelude, the S+ System creates a virtual stepped transmission within the e:HEV two-motor hybrid system. When engaged, it emulates stepped gears not just during acceleration, but also during deceleration as well.

Besides the S+ System, the updated Civic RS e:HEV gains the Prelude’s electronic push-button shifter arrangement (cringe) and flat-bottom or D-shaped steering wheel to “emphasize sportiness.” The new steering wheel also adds metal paddle shifters which also act as controllable regen levels when the S+ System is turned off.

Other changes to the 2027 Civic RS e:HEV include a new specific suspension tune that provides a “light and direct steering” feel.

The rest of the new Civic RS e:HEV package remains more or less the same with 18-inch Berlina matte black wheels, 9-inch infotainment system with Google built in, 12-speaker Bose sound system, and red pinstripe detailing that outlines the mesh detailing of the dashboard.

Launching in Japan this June, its final pricing has yet to be finalized. However, putting things into perspective, the current Civic RS e:HEV in Japan—the one without S+ System—costs 4,398,900 yen. That is still ways cheaper than the Prelude that starts at 6,179,800 yen despite sharing the same basic powertrain and, now, the shifter system.

Speaking of the Prelude, Honda has announced that a “2027 Limited Edition” variant of its sports coupe is coming. So far, Honda has remained mum as to what added features but it’s confirmed to be an aesthetic package.

Honda has confirmed the interior will gain a new dark red and black combination for the seats paired with red accents. The exterior’s blue highlights have also been switched over to red. The main colorway is also rumored to feature Premium Crystal Garnet Metallic, a deep wine-red shade not available in the current Prelude.

  1. Prelude has just been released at a whopping P3.5M and a limited edition is just around the corner? For how much? P5.3M maybe???

  2. Those complaining about Prelude's high peso SRP forgot to check the JPY SRP. Were they expecting peseo SRP to be the same level as Civic RS e:HEV?
