Nissan has started global shipment of its first-ever developed and made in China pickup truck, the Frontier Pro. And with a supposed local launch date this June, this first batch could very well be headed to the Philippines.
Marking Zhengzhou Nissan (ZNA)’s—a joint-venture between the Japanese automaker and its Chinese partner, Dongfeng Motor—internationalization strategy, the first batch of the BYD Shark 6 rivaling PHEV pickup truck was shipped for export.
The Frontier Pro is designed at Nissan’s Shanghai studio, while development was done at Nissan’s Chinese R&D under the concept of, “In China, For China, Towards the World.”
Prior to its market launch, the Frontier Pro has undergone more than a year of dedicated development and rigorous testing enabling it to meet Nissan’s most stringent global quality control system.
The Frontier Pro is positioned as the “world’s first ultra-luxury electric hybrid pickup truck” and comes with a PHEV powertrain featuring a 1.5-liter turbo engine and electric motor combo. Combined, the system delivers over 408 horsepower (300 kW) of power and up to 800 Nm, offering a balance of performance and efficiency. For the China domestic market, the Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid is targeted to deliver up to 135 kilometers of EV-only range.
In terms of design, the Frontier Pro features an illuminated Nissan logo, 18-inch wheels and tires, and a five-link rear suspension. It also has a sophisticated all-wheel drive system that automatically controls the torque distribution between the front and rear wheels.
Off-road capability is supported by the availability of an electromechanical rear differential lock. Four drive modes: ‘Hybrid, Pure electric, Performance and Snow’ allow the driver to tailor their experience to the conditions and their preferences.
The Frontier Pro is confirmed to arrive in the Philippines with a possible launch date at the Philippine International Motor Show in June.

Great decision by Nissan. They're adapting to changing times. Hopefully they'll do better in their other models
ReplyDeleteNissan is smart to quickly leverage their Chinese partnerships and production to compete against the Chinese brands locally. Ford, despite everything not good about the Territory, got a sales winner by importing the Territory from China. Hyundai and Kia are also importing Chinese-built vehicles with good success. Once the Terra will stop production in Thailand, the Chinese Terra will be a good replacement.
ReplyDeleteStrangely, Toyota, Honda, Isuzu etc. all have Chinese models but refuse to bring them here. These models would be their ticket to compete in pricing against the growing amount of Chinese brands locally.
Japanese brand will minimize bringing their China model here, kasi mostly they had use Chinese tech and they are afraid ma-degrade sila dito, they know themselves they are no match with highly advance of Chinese cars, this was attest by many top CEO of jap car brand.
DeleteNo, please, no to made in China Nissan.
ReplyDeleteNissan by using advance Chinese technology, it will be as superior as Chinese pickup brands in Philippines, and even better than some non-hybrid jap pick-up truck.
ReplyDeletethis will add competition sa hybrid pickup market here, may bago kalaban na si Changan Hunter k50, BYD shark 6, Foton tunland v7 & v9, Radar RD6 pickup car.
DeleteBut i think mas better ang Chinese brand pickup sa specification, pricing and even in certain qualities.
China’s latest car techs and low labor costs + Nissan quality and Legacy name = win win. Nissan’s made in china NEV selling well in china.
ReplyDeleteDongfeng will also sell their DF branded of this Frontier Pro. It will be cheaper for sure.
