Despite electrified vehicles (xEVs) seeing sales shoot up more than 142 percent for HEVs (400 percent for BEVs), MG Motor Philippines’s sales simply remained constant. This is a strong indication of increased competition in the field of New Energy Vehicles. Or maybe, they should have gotten a better sales training pep talker.
In a statement, MG’s sales merely cruised with 2,109 units sold in the first quarter of 2026 thanks to 716 units sold in January, 696 units in February, and 697 units in March.
A closer examination reveals that MG sold 109 BEVs, putting them behind Omoda Jaecoo (213 units), Tesla (469 units), and Vinfast (1,171 units). In the more competitive HEV category, their 263-unit sales total means they’re lagging behind the perennially overpriced brand, Honda (576 units). Heck, they’re even behind Ford (1,156 units) which sells just one frickin’ HEV model.
Still, kudos to MG for maintaining its eighth spot in the CAMPI-TMA rankings making them the meat between the Isuzu (3,514 units) and Hyundai (1,966 units) sandwich. Their sales, however, are down 12.9 percent year-on-year.
Per MG, their best-selling model remains the MG5 which, alongside, the MG GT, sold 880 units (down 20.5 percent year-on-year).
“MG Motor Philippines held its strong position in the first quarter of 2026, showing the growing trust of our customers and the strength of our expanding vehicle lineup,” said Wei Wei Zhang, President of MG Motor Philippines. “As we move forward, we remain focused on delivering global-quality vehicles, push our electrification efforts, and making innovative mobility more accessible to Filipino drivers.”

I think MG has already proven the durability of the MG5, introduced back in 2019.
ReplyDeleteOur MG5 Style variant is still going strong.
no reason to buy MG if there's BYD
ReplyDeleteMG should bring their updated NEV lineups here, updated MG 4, Urban, MG5S etc
ReplyDeleteThis needs a massive marketing reboot and a rethink in terms of pricing. They let the good word-of-mouth from the MG ZS series go to waste.
ReplyDeleteHonda: perennially overpriced.......but always consistent in sales..
ReplyDelete1st quarter 2026 car sales,
ReplyDelete7th place isuzu 3514,
8th place MG 2109,
9th place Hyundai 1966.
difference between 7th & 8th is 1,405. lag behind by thousand, while 8th and 9th is just over 143 car, can easily take over by Hyundai in 2026 year end. MG need more effort in marketing and services to retain its 9th place, considering Byd was still not in list, and a very active competitor vinfast who know can ate up MG in 2026.
MG has too many models but top sales nameplates are just a couple. The aforementioned 5 and of course the ZS are top sellers but for how long? G50 PHEV to the rescue?
