Nissan brings back the Terrano nameplate as a production-ready concept car. And Nissan’s very own President and CEO, Ivan Espinosa, has confirmed it will be a production model.
The Terrano PHEV “Concept” marks the return of an iconic nameplate. While full mechanical details have yet to be revealed by the brand, it’s almost certain to share the Frontier Pro’s 408 horsepower, 800 Nm dual electric motor setup. And being a PHEV, it will deliver around 135 kilometers of pure electric range (CLTC).
It will also likely carry the Frontier Pro’s five-link rear suspension system and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive which automatically controls torque distribution between the front and rear wheels. Off-road hardware will likely be shared too in the form of an electromechanical rear differential lock.
Officially, Nissan says that the Terrano “is equipped with the latest plug-in hybrid technology and builds on Nissan’s off-road heritage while addressing the dual needs of outdoor adventure and urban commuting.”
In terms of styling, the Terrano PHEV looks close to production ready save for what are clearly concept car cues such as light cubes and fancy roof-mounted lighting. That said, it looks to go head-to-head with other Chinese “adventure-styled” PHEVs such as the Jetour T2 thanks to rugged all-terrain tires complete with a tailgate-mounted full-sized spare.
No interior photos have been shown, but the production version is likely to take a page from the Frontier Pro with its standard panoramic roof, a 10-inch LCD instrument panel, and 14.6-inch infotainment screen. Front seat heating, ventilation and seat-back massage might be some of the options.

This looks more Pajero than the soon-to-launch Pajero (it looks like a Destinator Pro Max)
ReplyDeleteIt should come to the Philippines. The Japanese should bring in more of their HEV into the country if they want to beat the Chinese to the punch. Even if Japanese are more expensive than Chinese, they are way more reliable and people will still buy them. Besides, you really get what you pay for.

DeleteIt is still built by Dongfeng, but there will be no Dongfeng-badged version of this. Same with the current gen Ford Territory, build by JMC but JMC no longer makes a JMC-badged version of it.
ReplyDeleteits a joint venture
DeleteLots of marketing needed. They lost the momentum
ReplyDeleteDongfeng is the new Nissan. Dodged a bullet by not buying the Dongfeng Terra
ReplyDeleteA Chinese Terrano?
ReplyDeleteLike it or not. For several years back, numerous Japanese/Korean/American/British cars were jointly made and designed in China, to name some: GAC-Toyota, Wuling-Chevrolet, JMC-Ford, DongFeng-Nissan, DongFeng-Honda, SAIC-MG, Changan-Mazda, Chery-Land Rover, Yueda-Hyundai/Kia and more...
