This is it. Today marks the official start of retail sales of the all-new Land Cruiser FJ. Expanding one of Toyota’s most iconic nameplates, the Land Cruiser FJ brings the same Land Cruiser DNA into a more accessible, maneuverable package that balances legendary capability with the practicality needed for daily driving.
Drawing inspiration from classic Land Cruiser models, the all-new Land Cruiser FJ adopts a bold, upright silhouette with short overhangs, a wide stance, and generous ground clearance to support its off-road capability. At the same time, its compact proportions make it practical for city driving, offering a balance between rugged functionality and daily usability. The rear side-access cargo door, rear-mounted spare tire, and squared-off body panels further reinforce its utilitarian character while providing a platform suited for personalization and outdoor-oriented builds.
Inside, the cabin adopts a functional, driver-oriented layout designed for everyday usability. Durable materials, intuitive controls, and modern infotainment features create a practical environment for daily commutes while remaining ready for weekend adventures.
Powering both the variants of the Land Cruiser FJ, TX and VX, is a 2.7-liter 2TR-FE naturally aspirated gasoline engine, producing 166 horsepower and 245Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel-drive system, operating in rear-wheel drive during normal road use and allowing drivers to engage four-wheel drive when additional traction is needed.
The Land Cruiser FJ uses a ladder-frame chassis paired with a double-wishbone front suspension and a four-link rear suspension, delivering the structural strength expected from the Land Cruiser name while maintaining ride comfort for everyday use. Active Traction Control System (A-TRC) comes standard for both variants, supporting vehicle stability across varying terrain.
Both variants measure 4,610 mm long and 1,855 mm wide, ride on a 2,580 mm wheelbase, and provide 245 mm of ground clearance. The TX stands 1,890 mm tall while the VX measures 1,950 mm in height.
The TX is intended for customers seeking a straightforward and capable 4x4 that can readily be adapted to their needs. It comes equipped with 17-inch steel wheels, LED lighting, a 9-inch infotainment display, a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster, synthetic leather seats with manual adjustments, and physical controls for key vehicle functions, including a lever-type parking brake and rotary selector for four-wheel-drive modes, reinforcing its functional, driver-focused character.
For customers looking for additional comfort, technology, and safety, the VX builds on the TX's rugged foundation with premium enhancements. It upgrades to 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, side steps, a larger 12.3-inch infotainment display, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a leather shift knob, and a Panoramic View Monitor. The VX also comes equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes a Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, and Automatic High Beam, providing additional driver support for both everyday driving and off-road journeys.

ReplyDeleteTMPI intentionally priced the new '27 FJ so that it will not cannibalize sales from the Fortuner, which it is based on. Same reason for deliberately giving it a 2TR-FE instead of 1GD.
ReplyDeleteIt remains to be seen if our market "drinks the cool-aid" on this one. I predict the appetite will be tempered by the mismatched features versus price. Toyota may just want to plug a hole that may otherwise go to the Jetours and Havals at the moment.

problem with most people they only see value in the features or items that are visible. engineering development often cost most more than just installing big screens and vented seats etc. it really depends really on the buyer

ReplyDeleteShared platform means shared development costs. For example, you can copy the engine, the engine compartment, tweak an existing suspension, etc. You save a lot of money by not starting from scratch.
DeleteCoolray is built on the BMA platform which Volvo doesn't have any cars with. Geely and Volvo however both have cars built on the same CMA platform.
It's predictable that a company will want to keep their savings to themselves but sometimes it's too much. Sometimes the most real criticisms are from the biggest fans. True friends will tell you about your mistakes with the hope you change.
A company can have great products that sell well even at a price that some would consider a bit much but that doesn't mean people shouldn't be allowed to comment about the price.

ReplyDeletethe review overseas is not very flattering. it says it runs out of "puff" when overtaking at 120 kph. they say it should have a turbo diesel instead of a 2.7liter gasoline inline 4 engine. it "drinks" like a V8 engine. another thing, many buyers now are gravitating towards hybrids or pure EV because petrol is so expensive. even if gas or diesel comes down on price, it would take a long time and it would only a small amount due to the destruction of many oil infrastructure during the war.

And it’s not even meant to be driven that fast. those who want diesel and more power should go to fortuner, Prado or LC300. it has a different target market from other Toyota cars. From the feedback I’ve heard it’s now selling like hotcakes
DeleteWill probably wait for the future 1GD-FTV turbo-diesel before considering one. This is an almost-perfect truck except for the thirsty engine and low end torque, as well as slow overtaking on the highway. A turbo-diesel would definitely make this perfect!
