“We're still optimistic that vehicle sales will bounce back over the next few months through year-end. The August dip appears to be a short-term disruption rather than a reversal of market momentum,” said CAMPI President Jose Maria Atienza.

Toyota led all CAMPI-TMA member brands with 14,594 units sold—itself a 14.3 percent drop versus the same month in 2025. The rest of the Top 5 brands—Mitsubishi (3,570 units or -47 percent), Suzuki (1,350 or -28.8 percent), Honda (1,097 units or -12.6 percent), and Ford (930 units or -42.5 percent) all showed large dips when compared to August 2025 figures.

Interestingly enough, more Chinese brands (3) have entered the CAMPI-TMA Top 10 in August 2026 with MG now in 6th (916 units), Omoda Jaecoo in 7th (902 units), and Geely in 8th (810 units). Nissan takes the 9th spot with 771 units and in 10th is Isuzu with 765 units. Factoring in BYD Cars Philippines’ recent August 2026 sales announcement, the new energy vehicle brand’s 4,682-unit tally would have been enough to catapult them to second in overall vehicle sales when non-CAMPI-TMA members were included.

Thanks to fuel prices creeping up again for the past few months, sales of xEVs—the collective term consisting of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs)—have jumped up 214.9 percent versus August 2025 to 7,066 units. This means that 34.5 percent of all new cars sold last August were xEVs, the second highest since April when it peaked at 37.2 percent.

Having said that, it’s also not immune to the general downturn which sees sales down 0.3 percent lower than July 2026. Among the three general types of xEVs, BEV sales have gone down 2.8 percent, while sales of PHEVs and HEVs inched higher by 0.7 percent and 1.2 percent, respectively.
