Isuzu Philippines Previews Euro 4 Compliant mu-X and D-Max

Isuzu Philippines Corporation used the occasion of its 20th anniversary celebration to announce the company’s new Euro 4 compliant offerings. And leading the charge are the new 2018 Isuzu mu-X and D-Max which both receive the 3.0-liter Blue Power turbo diesel engine.

Aside from being compliant with revised provisions of the Philippine Clean Air Act which takes effect on January 1, 2018, the 4JJ1-TCX engine nets Isuzu’s popular 7-seater SUV and pickup with a slight power bump (177 horsepower from 163 horsepower) with torque remaining the same at 380 Nm. Mated to this engine is a new 6-speed automatic unit with sequential shift for the mu-X. The D-Max retains the services of a 5-speed automatic.

Aesthetically, the 2018 mu-X receives a revised front fascia with new headlights, bumpers, and grille. For higher-end models, LED headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights (DRLs) provide better nighttime visibility. At the back, it gets a re-shaped rear bumper as well as LED lighting on the taillights. Capping off the changes are larger 18-inch alloy wheels which replace the current 17-inchers. Exterior-wise the 2018 D-Max remains the same as the 2017 model.

Inside, the 2018 mu-X gets slight tweaks with more soft-touch material and upgraded seating material. A new instrument cluster completes the changes. In terms of comfort and convenience, the mu-X adds more features such as auto-leveling for the headlights, hill descent control, and a re-designed 8-inch infotainment system with USB smartphone link and GPS navigation. Meanwhile, Isuzu’s venerable pickup gets soft padding and piano black accents. It also gets hill start assist and hill descent control. Both models also benefit from the addition of multiple USB charging ports.

Isuzu Philippines Corporation will announce the market availability, variants, specs, and pricing of the 2018 mu-X and D-Max in October.

    2. Thailand is not using the 430NM torque unit.

Also, the PH bas Euro 4 fuel. It is not prudent to run Euro 4 fuel on a Euro 5 engine. Good luck with reliability later on if you do so.

    3. FYI Audi and BMW are euro 6.

    4. Theres a good reason kung bakit 2.5 L or 3.0 L lang ang displacement hindi 1.9...
Simple lng...engineers knows best...its a balance between fuel consumption, power and reliability or longevity of engine. But of course ma compensate sya sa kunsumo ng krudo.

How much more 177 na kabayo (177HP) humihila sa body ng sasakyan mo. Kung i imagine mo, kung single file sila na nakatali baka umabot ng kalahating kilometro ang haba nila...imagine that kind of power...masyado lang tayo minsan mapaghanap eh. Without realizing the facts. Also, how much power is enough? May i ask?...sa magaling na driver kahit 100Hp lng yan kaya diskartehan...basta manual transmission lang...Una pag primera mo, isagad mo rpm nya, change ka pag palagay mo ay hindi na nabago ang speed nya then so on so forth. I once drove a 2017 hilux 2.8 manual 6 speed, yong speed na 120kph nasa 3rd gear ka pa lang noon kung isasagad mo rpm kada gear.

  3. I hope that they bring the 1.9 liter here. That would really shake up the PPV segment.

    1. That is only 160 hp. It can be use in a dmax but the mux is a behemoth at 2k+ kg weight too heavy for that small engine.

    2. The 1.9L engine of Isuzu actually has a bit more power compared to the 2.4L (147hp) found in the 4x2 Toyota Fortuner and Hilux.

      Delete
    3. Not to mention, the 1.9L engine of Isuzu is also lighter. This means better and faster acceleration as well as better fuel economy since engines also weigh considerably. It also means less maintenance since you will need less engine oil per oil change compared to larger displacement engines.

    4. It depends on what kind of buyer you are. Me, there's no substitute for a powerful 3 liter as long as there's good NVH in the cabin. Isuzu's big motor are proven to be fuel mizer. So why buy a puny engine. Australians love the Isuzu muxs power and economy, though the engine is tweaked to EURO 5 and 430 nm of torque in that market. There's no 1.9L there for a reason.

    5. The 1.9L is only 150 hp too small for this 2 tonner.

    6. Buyers report the 2.4L Toyota has barely enough power. The MUX has a lot more power to spare and useful passive safety features like, stability control, hill start assist, descent control, does it have back camera? not sure, etc. Toyota has none except for the top of the line, that's 2 million ++ mucho dinero. If this MUX 3L is priced lower than the 2.4L Toyota there's no reason why one would go for the Toyota, unless of course, he's a true blue fanboy.

  4. Finally Isuzu has no choice but to comply otherwise it'll still continue getting rid of the euro 2 engine here. Anyway, if priced same or just a tad higher than the euro 2 this will revitalize the mux sales

  5. Still no improvements on the interior. Yung ibang Car Manufacturers mag yu-euro 5 na, yung Isuzu, ngayon palang mag Euro 4. Haaayzz

    1. Good luck running Euro 4 fuel in a Euro 5 engine.

The 1.9 ddi is doing well in Thailand with some Thais claiming to do 30km/L on their provincial roads. Go visit Thailand to find out yourself.

    2. Have you seen and felt the unit in person? I was at the launch and I saw and felt the unit myself. The interior has been improved with better soft touch materials, the seats are also of better quality compared to the pre-facelift model.

As time goes and with newer engines coming, they now describe the 2.8 as weak or under powered engine.

  12. I'm currently torn between the Mitsu Montero, Ford Everest, Chevy Trailblazer, and MU-X, I'll be buying this coming December 2017. May I have the pros and cons aside from the things I read in the internet, I would hope that it would be solely based on experience, but opinions can also help me decide. I'm looking for low maintenance in a vehicle, but with reliable after sales, and not the least a good powerplant.

    1. The Montero is the best among them, but I like the classy look of the Fortuner but it has mediocre specs, and the rugged look and advanced tech of the Everest. I wouldn't even consider the MUX and the Trailblazer.

      Delete
    2. Agree with the Montero except it's the ugliest of them all. Fortuner is the prettiest but yeah, specs mediocre. The old MUX well, the looks barely pass being average but the upcoming one looks a lot better. And that 3L engine man, I wouldn't ignore that. It's now Euro 4 and Isuzu said it has improved on the NVH, that sounds even sweeter. Chevy of course, is off the list. The American brand doesn't seem to know what to do with it. It looks outdated and disjointed. Let me add, Everest looks strong and the specs good but needs a refresh now. Honda's diesel CRV looks promising. It's for the snooty, sophisticated (kono) buyer. A proper crossover I bet should ride a lot more comfortably than those truck-based SUVs. So my take is this. If you're the rugged devil may care kind then it's the new MUX. If you're the rich or feeling rich kind and sophisticated needing attention then the CRV is my choice. If you're the type who gets an erection looking at an ugly face with beautiful legs then buy the Montero.

    3. You say the MUX looks average but the montero is ugly? What the hell are you smoking dude?

    4. No need to smoke to see the Montero is ugly.

    5. Well then. It's either you're blind or you have bad taste in cars. The montero is far from ugly. Anong maganda sa iyo? Crosswind?

      Delete
    6. You're stupid he wrote it there already. Why still ask if it's Crosswind? And why do you impose on others what you like. He has his choice, you have yours. We have our own choices. And by the way, I agree with Anon 10:14, the Montero is ugly.

    7. montero is definitely ugly. i dont where the designers got that box look and market it as futuristic.

    8. Buying a car is personal choice.. all that suv as mentioned have pros and cons..you can list down the following what you need for your personal choice.1) engine displacement(you can search which one is better).2)fuel econamy.3.)Performance (after 5 years) do not ask the performance of a new vehicle obviouslly they are all good.4) internal features(more space)..lastly outside feature(porma).. some outside feature are good for others but not for you..you can go to all car dealer and you can decide what is best for you..

  13. i would buy them all if i have the money :D

  14. I like the new MUX with the 3 liter engine. I we buy 1.9 liter, the engine may be too small for an extended family traveling together with all the baggage. A small engine though powerful would have shorter strokes resulting to higher RPM before attaining peak HP. This result to high engine stress and shorter engine life. A three liter engine would have bigger connecting rods, bigger bearings,
better torque/hp at low rpms resulting to lesser engine stress promoting better economy in the long run. Yes, its heavier, but the configuration adapt to how Filipinos travel with their families in long distances with everything at the back.

    3. just got the unit last dec 20th. 2018 mux blue power obsidian gray. pros and cons. Cons muna. the steering wheel is a bit heavy though not that much. if you are used to a lighter steering wheel, you'll get your hands full with the mux. the MID (Multi Information Display), parang dot matrix kung titignan mo ng malapitan.
Pros: The Engine. you really cant feel the grunt since carry over ung torque niya from the previous engine, pero pag inapakan mo na, aysus. hindi mo mapapansin na naka 100kph ka na pala. and mas tahimik ung makina ng blue power.also, big improvement sa NVH. Ride comfort is outstanding. 3 usb slots so you can charge your smartphone.2 sa front, 1 sa middle. yan lang muna. nde ko pa masyadong masasabi lahat since 3 days old pa lang si mux sken.
