This P 6.9 Million Ford Mustang Runs the Quarter Mile in 8 Seconds

Ford Performance revealed what they call the quickest drag-racing Mustang ever. Called the Mustang Cobra Jet, it’s capable of decimating the quarter-mile in the mid-8-second range.

Honoring the 50th anniversary of the original Cobra Jet that dominated drag strips in 1968, the 2018 model is a limited edition (just 68 will be made) turnkey race car (fully-built from the factory). With a top speed of 241 km/h and a quarter-mile time in the mid-8-second range, the 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet is what Ford Performance says is the “epitome of close teamwork between traditional and motorsports engineering groups to maximize the design, performance, and durability of production Mustangs.”

Powered by the 5.0-liter V8, the Mustang Cobra Jet gets bored out to 5.2 liters. It’s then strengthened and then outfitted with a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger. Other changes include a swap to a 9-inch solid rear axle, two-way coil over shock absorbers with adjustable ride height, and a low-drag disc brake system.

Additional factory-provided racing performance upgrades include an NHRA-certified safety roll cage, FIA-certified seats, and anniversary-badged racing wheels.

Available either in Race Red or Oxford White, it can also be outfitted with exclusive 50th Anniversary graphics and badging.

All this straight-line performance doesn’t come cheap though. Each one of these carry a price tag of USD 130,000 (~P 6.9 million). Only 68 will be made in honor of the Cobra Jet’s 1968 debut.
