The first-ever global launch happened in the country as Toyota Motor Philippines unveiled the all-new 2020 Hiace a week after some photos leaked onto the internet. As the world’s largest market for Toyota’s full-sized MPV outside of Japan, sales will start here first before the rest of the world.
The sixth-generation Hiace marks Toyota’s move to become a global mobility company. Going to important markets around the world, Toyota designers and engineers created a vehicle around the concept of “pride.” Where owners, drivers, and passengers realize they are in good hands when they own, drive, or ride in a Hiace.
The all-new Hiace drops its one-box look for a semi-bonnet design. With the engine pushed ahead of the driver area, it frees up more cabin space. It also has a wider front glass, auxiliary mirrors, and a lower belt line for better visibility. This has also improved comfort and ergonomics for the front passengers. For easier ingress and egress, it has wider step board, and assist grip handles. Seating capacity ranges from 12-15 people depending on the variant.
Powering the all-new Hiace is a 1GD-FTV 2.8-liter engine with outputs ranging from 163 to 176 horsepower and 420 or 450 Nm of torque. Transmission is a choice between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic, again depending on the variant. The new Hiace is available in two body configurations: a normal wheelbase with standard roof and a long wheelbase model with a high roof design. Underneath, it has extended rear leaf springs with 30 millimeters more rebound for improved comfort.
Convenience features include overhead storage consoles, plush headrests, LED interior lighting, USB charging ports, and a touchscreen infotainment system.
In terms of safety, the all-new Hiace comes with 2 SRS airbags (3 for models with a bench-type front seats) and ring-shaped chassis reinforcements. Higher trim models come with ABS with EBD, stability control, and front and rear sensors with a parking camera. All in all, Toyota says they are confident that the 2020 Hiace will meet the highest Global NCAP safety standards.
Interestingly, the current fifth-generation Hiace will continue to be sold in Japan as is, while this sixth-generation model is meant to focus on emerging markets.

This is what you called new vehicle. It was all changed. Good Job Toyota! How about the Hyundai Starex, particularly the GL Variant, lack of safety features, weak engine??

ReplyDeleteHow many aircon vents does the Commuter Deluxe Variant have in the Rear Passenger area???

DeleteWhere’s the captain seats? Really expecting the gl tourer to have one since its the totl variant. Instead they put bench type seats like a commuter van. They need to add another variant with captain seats since a lot of people are obviously gonna look for it
ReplyDeleteCaptain's Seats will likely arrive at a later time. That would be the "Super Grandia" just like before.

ReplyDeleteThey should add 1 variant with captain seats and with 176hp engine.
ReplyDeleteIn due time.
DeleteThe long two-way radio antennas should be standard across all models =)
ReplyDeleteGL Grandia Tourer is almost 6 meters? Haha. Nakakatakot.
ReplyDeleteSir Uly, how many aircon vents does the Commuter Deluxe Variant have in the Rear Passenger area???
ReplyDeleteFrom what we could remember...it was just one row (second row). There are no vents for the other rows in the Commuter Deluxe. The GL Grandia and GL Grandia Tourer though had vents all the way to the back-most.
DeleteSad to hear that. Lack of aircon vents that could cool more passengers. Toyota should have put more aircon vents in other rows in Commuter Deluxe Variant like to that of the GL Grandia since its exterior dimensions is similar to the GL Grandia variant. Don't know if it is capable in cooling all passenger especially those who are sitting in the last row considering that it has only one row of aircon vents, similar to the previous Commuter Variant. Sad.

ReplyDeleteDouble sliding doors? In some pictures from other site...double...sa iba single
ReplyDeleteNope. Single sliding door.
Deletehows the ride kaya? ever since it changed into the minibus with leaf springs...parang ang tagtag na sobra...kahit ung super grandia or the lxv..pag nasa rough road di pa rin talaga luxury car...sana nabago na to..considering malaking market ang PH and most vans here are people carrier not utility vehicles unlike in other asian countries
ReplyDeletewell here's hoping its has improved specially for the guys up front and the middle ones, since the front suspension and the engine are no longer under the ass of the driver & passenger. For the rear as per the videos online on the launched the suspension was tuned for more comfort so hopefully it has. Lets see if the Super Grandia would have coil springs for the rear suspension, but i highly doubt that though.
DeleteWonder why the totl produces less power than the other variants. Mas mabigat siya, diba?
ReplyDeleteCredits to Toyota for increasing safety sa base variant.
me thinks the GL Tourer is not the TOTL, its more of the LXV replacement, if you compare the old lxv they're base more of the gl grandia with an extended noggin', more seats and features are almost the same. The Super Grandia would likely arrive in a few months time or possibly next year just like what they did before. Hopefully that guy will have them 450nm of pull. But heck 420nm is no joke either especially for a van, that will be adequate on the daily grind. tama ba Uly
DeleteHow about the Nissan Urvan, Foton View, Kinglong Vans, Joylong Vans, etc. who just copied the body of the previous Hiace??? The van that you copied is now changed into a NEW van. How will you design your new vans???
ReplyDeleteYeah we'll see whats gonna happen in the van segment after this revelation, it's quite interesting who's gonna follow the trend if ever. Another thing is the aftermarket accessories, I mean look at all the parts and stuff one can get for the previous gen hiace in any variant(lights, grille, hood,etc.).

ReplyDeleteBut I think this updated design of small engine hood is the very design of Starex long before. . .
ReplyDeleteI do not understand toyota's logic in putting the engine with the lowest power and torque combo on the model that is the most expensive, biggest and most importantly the HEAVIEST!?
ReplyDeleteyeah, you and me bud and I'm sure most of the people here as well.
DeleteIndividual air vent ba ang aircon ng tourer sa back seat?
ReplyDeleteHow do I buy a centre console to put in my hiace in Australia?
ReplyDeleteif im going to add accessory to the vehicle will the warranty be voided
