Toyota Unveils 2021 Corolla Cross SUV (w/ Video)

Toyota has unveiled an all-new crossover that slots between its C-HR and RAV4: the 2021 Corolla Cross. Expressing a strong sense of sportiness, agility, and robustness it promises spaciousness and comfort in the compact crossover class populated by the likes of the Subaru XV, Mazda CX-30, and Honda HR-V.

The 2021 Corolla Cross is underpinned by the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). But despite sharing its name with Toyota’s compact sedan, it uses a newly-developed torsion beam. Still, Toyota says the suspension has been enhanced for better grip and smoother ride, while improving the balance while driving straight and cornering. Wheel size is a choice between 17-inch (215/60 R 17) or 18-inch (225/50 R 18).

It’s powered by a choice between two engine choices. The 1.8-liter normally-aspirated 2ZR-FBE engine making 140 horsepower and 177 Nm of torque mated to a CVT. Meanwhile, the hybrid variant gets a 98 horsepower, 142 Nm of torque 1.8-liter Atkinson cycle engine coupled with an electric motor that produces 71 horsepower and 163 Nm of torque. The non-hybrid is said to deliver 15.4 km/L, while the hybrid goes up to 23.3 km/L.

Feature set of the Corolla Cross include a unique interior color: Terra Rossa, power adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, reclineable rear seats with center armrest, power moon roof, 9-inch infotainment system, and even a power tailgate with kick sensor. More than that, it boasts of 487 liters of cargo space—one of the largest in its class.

Toyota Safety Sense such as Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Lane Tracing Assist, Automatic High Beam, as well as Panoramic View Monitor, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and 7 SRS Airbags is standard.

Prices in Thailand start 989,000 Thai Baht (P 1,570,500~) and top out at 1,199,000 Thai Baht (P 1,900,000~). 1. Here if this starts at 1.6m it will share the fate of the RAV4, it will attract flies.

  2. Altis hybrid is 1.6M and if this is to be introduced here it should be priced around 1.7M. If priced above this then you have the RAV4 or Fortuner territory. Yes those are different segments but price will always be a consideration and the cost of running the vehicle

  3. If toyota wants this baby to compete with the likes of hrv... price should be a little bit lower or the same price tag otherwise this will be a bummer.
