Geely Xingyue L Has 4 Screens, 2 Infotainment Systems And A New OS Called Milky Way

After showing it off at the Shanghai Auto Show last April, Geely’s new flagship SUV, the Xingyue L is now available for the Chinese domestic market. The third model in Geely’s “Star” series, the Xingyue L is the brand’s most advanced SUV ever, and the public seems to agree: over 30,000 bookings have been placed even before its showroom debut.

Using the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), the Xingyue L is designed with strong proportions in mind with its 1,610 mm wheel track and 2,845 mm wheelbase.

The interior is designed as a “symphony between Eastern and Western styling.” The materials, including suede are refined in the classical definition, but incorporate elements such as Chinese knots too.

Of course, being a Geely technology is at the core of the user experience. The Xingyue L is the first model to run on the brand’s newest operating system: the Milky Way OS. This supports the seamless linking of four screens, two infotainment systems, a fully-digital driver instrument screen, and a 25.6-inch augmented reality heads up display. The Xingyue L also comes with a 10-speaker Bose sound system and a customizable 72-color ambient lighting scheme.

Aside from the Volvo-developed CMA platform, the Xingyue L also gets the jointly-developed 2.0-liter turbocharged engine mated to either a 7-speed DCT or 8-speed torque converter automatic. There are two states of tune with the high-power version getting 238 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque. Zero to 100 km/h is done in 7.7 seconds. The “slower” 217 horsepower, 325 Nm version does the same sprint in 7.9 seconds.

Geely says the Xingyue L will also be the first to benefit from a full hybrid system (GHS2.0) which will have up to 40 percent more fuel savings.

Using BorgWarner’s sixth-generation four-wheel drive system, a 50/50 front/rear torque distribution is possible, offering Xingyue L users improved off-road performance. Five driving modes will be available; an energy efficient ECO mode, refined NORM mode, speedy SPORT mode, reliable SNOW mode, and a powerful OFFROAD mode.

Thanks to a myriad of sensors, the 5G-enabled Xingyue L offers a completely unmanned automated valet system. Within a 200-meter area such as a parking lot, the Xingyue L can drive independently, search for parking spots and park itself. The reverse can also be accomplished by calling the Xingyue L to pick up the user within a 200-meter area.

The advanced sensor suite also allows Xingyue L to be the first Geely model to offer highway assisted driving which actively monitors the vehicle’s surroundings, autonomously change lanes, and move safe distances away from large vehicles. Drivers can also direct the Xingyue L to autonomously change lanes through signaling.

Xingyue L comes with full firmware OTA which allows fundamental aspects of the vehicle, including safety, infotainment, power, chassis, autonomous drive, and connectivity to be upgraded over time.
