Mazda Installs Solar Power System At Hiroshima Plant

As part of its efforts to reach carbon neutrality by 2050, Mazda has just turned on their first solar power generation system.

It certainly took a while for the Hiroshima-based carmaker to embrace solar energy for their manufacturing lines and factory offices, but it’s finally happened. The solar power system, installed at their Hiroshima plant has an output of 1.1 MW (Megawatts). The power generated by these solar panels will supply electricity to the entire plant, and will also be used to charge the batteries of all MX-30 EVs produced at the plant.

Moving forward, Mazda will continue to introduce and use sustainable sources of electricity in more assembly plants worldwide.

In the Philippines for example, the Mazda Center of Excellence (MCOE) generates its own electric power using 270 solar panels. Excess electricity may be transferred to the grid and drawn back at nighttime for use. MCOE also harvests rainwater that is used to wash vehicles before delivery and also for general housekeeping of the facility.
