Are You The 2022 Mazda CX-5?

Mazda may have been giving its CX-5 compact SUV continuous updates every year be it in the form of new colors, more advanced features, or even upgraded engines, it seems 2022 will finally give it some revised exterior styling as well.

If these spy shots are true, the refreshed CX-5 looks to be getting revised front and rear ends that tie it closer to Mazda’s seventh-generation models such as the Mazda3 and CX-30.

Among the exterior changes are the headlights (they look to sport new DRL patterns) and a revised wing grille that no longer cuts into the headlamp cluster itself. The bumpers also look new, taking on a similar shape found in the Mazda3 and CX-30. Like those vehicles, the separate front fog lamps are gone. This points to the possibility that the refreshed CX-5 will have updated headlights with upgraded adaptive driving beams that integrate the function of front fog lamps.

At the back, the taillight clusters appear slimmer and more angular than before. Moreover, the black portions of the rear bumper and rear reflectors have been reduced. New wheel designs for both the 2WD (17s) and AWD (19s) are also on the cards. Some photos also show that the CX-5 will be made available in Platinum Quartz Metallic—Mazda’s newest premium color.

No shots of the interior have been made available, but likely it’ll benefit from upgrades first seen in the MY2021 Japan Domestic Model of the CX-5 including the larger 10.25-inch infotainment system fitted with the latest Mazda Connect system.

These spy shots were taken in China, where the CX-5 is produced in a joint-venture with Changan. It’s currently unknown whether this is a China market-only update, or whether this new look will be seen globally. Regardless, pundits are pointing out that Mazda will indeed introduce a refreshed CX-5 sometime late this year.

  1. Yet we still have early 2020 models sold locally. We're going to be 2 generations behind with the CX-5. Such a shame as really wanted to get a Mazda but find the current CX-5 models lacking in tech.
