Toyota Has Cornered 48 Percent Of Philippine New Car Sales; Ford, Suzuki, Nissan In Tight Race For Third

The joint report by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) shows September 2021 sales rising almost 36 percent month-on-month as the government began shifting to the Alert Level-based community quarantine measures.

The measures, meant to balance the spread of COVID-19 while also easing social and business restrictions had a positive effect on new automotive sales.

Sales rose to 21,493 units last month pushing year-to-date numbers to 191,605 units—up 29.5 percent from the same period in 2020. Year-to-date, Passenger Car (PC) sales are up 38 percent to 60,982 units, while Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) sales are positive 26 percent to 130,623 units.

Despite the good news, it’s worth noting that September 2021 sales are down 12 percent compared to September 2020’s 24,523 units.

Year-to-date, Toyota Motor Philippines retained its leadership position with 92,318 units sold—a good 48 percent share of the market. They’re followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines in second place with 26,825 units, Ford Philippines in third with 14,696 units, Suzuki Philippines in fourth with 14,447 units, and Nissan Philippines in fifth with 14,240 units.
