Airflow Concept Points To All-Electric Future For Chrysler

Chrysler may be late to the EV game, but they plan to catch up quickly. At CES 2022, the American carmaker has made a bold claim that they will go fully electric by 2028, three years after they plan to introduce their first battery electric vehicle in 2025.

Though still in a concept car phase, Chrysler’s first-ever EV could be something like the Airflow Concept which they’ve shown. The Airflow Concept runs on parent company Stellantis’s STLA Brain software platform and together with its proprietary STLA SmartCockpit interface, aims to become a connected hub that creates a customized space for each vehicle occupant.

At the middle of the Airflow Concept is a new human machine interface that’s clean, easy to use, and easy to understand. Using a menu-based format, screens throughout the interior can be personalized, simplified, and grouped based on individuals and interests. Information on the screens can be shared with all passengers by swiping. Customization and personalization are key, whether driving or acting as a co-pilot with each screen acting as a personalized space.

The Airflow Concept features all-wheel drive capability thanks to two electric drive motors—one at the front, and one at the back. Combined, it will deliver around 408 horsepower (204 horsepower per axle). Drive motors are located toward the front and rear of the vehicle, maximizing interior space and enabling the large wheel size (it runs on 22 inches) and wide stance. The battery, meanwhile, is designed to deliver up to 643 kilometers of range. It will also offer Level 3 semi-autonomous driving technology thanks to STLA AutoDrive, which is developed in partnership with BMW.

Aside from delivering zero tailpipe emissions, Chrysler says their EV manufacturing process will be clean, and the vehicles themselves will be made with recyclable and renewable materials.
