BMW M's First Electrified SUV Packs 619 Horsepower And Questionable Design

BMW’s high-performance M brand is moving into the world of electrified vehicles, and the first SUV offering on their menu is the 2023 BMW iX M60.

Alongside the BMW i4 M50, the iX M60 marks a milestone in the 50-year history of BMW M. The all-electric all-wheel drive SUV is undoubtedly high performance thanks to its electric motors that deliver 619 horsepower, 1,100 Nm of torque. 0 to 100 km/h is done in just 3.8 seconds and top speed is pegged (electronically) at 250 km/h. Despite the monstrous outputs though, it still manages to return up to 574 kilometers in range.

Putting all that power to the ground, the iX M60 features a specifically M tuned suspension with air suspension and automatic leveling. The use of an aluminum spaceframe and a carbon fiber reinforced plastic roof keeps the weight down and further lowers the center of gravity.

The BMW iX M60 comes standard with 22-inch lightweight “Air Performance” alloy wheels, soft-close doors, laser lights, automatic parking, four-zone climate control, and ventilated front seats with massagers.

The polarizing design of the BMW iX remains, but it does get specific BMW M elements such as the brake calipers painted in blue and a new High Gloss Black/Titanium Bronze finish on the front side panels and rear.

The BMW iX rolls off the production line by the middle of 2022 at the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing. The vehicle itself and the battery cells are manufactured using green power. The BMW Group procures the cobalt and lithium required for the high-voltage batteries from controlled sources in Australia and Morocco, and delivers it to the battery cell manufacturers. The design principle for the electric motors allows the use of rare earth metals to be avoided in the drive system rotors.

  1. are you referring the "questionable design" to the fake bucktooth grille?
