More Than 50 Percent Of LTO Offices In NCR Reopen Today

Processing and issuances of existing and new drivers’ licenses and vehicle registration documents continue in much of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) offices and branches nationwide, despite the temporary closure of the LTO Central Office and some other LTO branches in Metro Manila which has been most affected by the surge in new COVID cases.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Edgar C. Galvante said operations for LTO clients in the LTO Central Office are expected to resume on Monday, January 17 with some 31.6 percent or 264 of 834 employees having tested positive via antigen testing, and of these 264, 6.4 percent or 17 employees found positive via RT-PCR, after they returned following the New Year break last January 3.

Meanwhile, more than 50 percent of the LTO’s offices in the NCR reopened today. The LTO chief urged the public to avail of the online services at the LTO’s Land Transportation Management System (LTMS), so as to minimize their face-to-face exposure in the various LTO offices.

LTO clients can also conduct their transactions in the other LTO offices nationwide that have remained open.

The LTO has extended by two months the validity of driver’s licenses, student permits, conductor’s licenses, and medical certificates falling due in January, February, and March, to reduce pressure on the public to go out to the LTO offices in the midst of the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Also, the deadline for renewal of registration for vehicles in January has been extended by a month.

Because of the surge in new COVID cases among its employees in the NCR, the LTO has operated on a skeletal and work-from-home (WFH) basis with only vital and technical staff required to report at the LTO Central and other affected offices so that nationwide operations can be maintained.
