GAC Motor Philippines wants to be taken seriously, and with that, previewed the EMPOW55. The striking sports compact is intended to cater to a younger generation seeking an adrenaline rush in every day driving.
Initially launched as a concept, the 2022 EMPOW55 is the official entry of the brand into the compact sports sedan segment, and the first model to use the brand’s GPMA (Global Platform Modular Architecture) platform.
The GPMA platform allows the EMPOW55 to have a low center of gravity that contributes to better handling. And with a drag coefficient of just 0.26, it is capable of achieving lower fuel consumption thanks to better aerodynamics.
Contributing to its meaner stance is the Mecha grille that has double-sided blade air curtains that improve engine cooling and ventilation. It has four exhaust pipes with switchable exhaust notes, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a built-in rear diffuser. Its slim and upswept LED headlights, sloping rear windshield, and slim LED taillights contribute to the vehicle’s coupe-like appearance.
Powering the EMPOW55 is a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine capable of producing 175 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque. Mated to a 7-speed wet-type dual clutch automatic, the century km/h sprint is done in just 6.95 seconds. It also has changeable driving modes that customize functions such as the climate control, acceleration pedal behavior, power delivery, ambient lighting, exhaust system, and stability control engagement.
The EMPOW55 is also the pioneering model that uses the GAC ADiGO 3.0 smart driving system. This includes an in-car camera that detects a distracted driver. The system can also detect if the driver and/or occupant is smoking and will lower the windows automatically. It can also lower the audio system when the front passenger is taking or making a phone call. It also adjusts certain parameters such as the seating depending on the driver’s identity.
Other features include an interior ambient lighting system and a full glass roof that extends from the front windshield to the rear windshield.
Pricing and exact specification of the 2022 GAC EMPOW55 will be announced closer to its official Philippine launch date.
I like GAC vehicles, but I don't like the name of this car (sounds like ampaw, sorry GAC, just being honest here).
ReplyDeleteAnother thing I don't like is the very limited number of dealerships. Haist.
Still, I very much like GAC vehicles.
EMPOW55 is a goofy name for a serious car. They better change it.
ReplyDeleteAnd now i'm glad Chery didn't use the "Kunpeng e+" naming in Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV. (Though I know that it is referring to mythological birds, a typical Pinoy don't understand Chinese references.)
