One-Off Mercedes-AMG, Will.I.Am Collab Has Questionable Looks, Unquestionable Motive

Meet ‘The Flip,’ a one-off Mercedes-AMG model designed in collaboration with will.i.am. Christened “WILL.I.AMG,” it’s made by U.S.-based West Coast Customs.

Now, before chastising the design, it’s worth saying that this one-off vehicle was made to raise money to help fund students from disadvantaged communities. The goal is to give them access to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) education, which will hopefully help equip them with the skills required for future-focused jobs and to invent new technologies.

Back to the car, the WILL.I.AMG is based on the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door coupe and fuses that with design elements from both the G-Class SUV and also the SLS Gullwing. The G-Class part of it is obvious with its blocky front-end and round headlights. Meanwhile, nods to the SLS Gullwing including the split glass roof and vented hood. Oh, and yes, it has rear-hinged (aka suicide) doors too.

Nearly every exterior panel is new, but will.i.am reveals that the powertrain is untouched. Because, in his words, they “make the best engines.”

Notice the Mercedes-Benz logo set inside a bear logo? Well, the rapper also plans to launch, “BEAR WITNESS” which is a limited-edition apparel and accessories collection which will be sold through the official Mercedes-AMG online store.

If you’re interested in seeing how the WILL.I.AMG came about, a six-part documentary will also be premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
