The All-New Nissan X-Trail E-Power Has 203 Horsepower But Does 19 Km/L

Proof once again of the versatility of its e-Power system, Nissan has launched the all-new X-Trail in Japan propelled exclusively by this unique powertrain.

Similar to its application in the Kicks e-Power, the X-Trail e-Power features an all-electric drive with a gasoline engine serving as a power generator to the onboard battery. Unlike the Kicks though, the X-Trail uses Nissan’s Variable Compression (VC) Turbo engine as a generator. The 1.5-liter 3-cylinder KR15DDT and its VC-Turbo system allows this compact SUV to offer improved energy generation at both low- and high-loads. It also keeps the engine operation as quiet as possible (reduced by 3 decibels, according to Nissan).

Although this engine is also available without e-Power, the main driving force of the X-Trail e-Power is a brand new all-electric motor dubbed BM46. This new motor develops 203 horsepower (150 kW) and 320 Nm of torque.

For all-wheel drive variants, the all-new X-Trail is also available with a dual motor set-up which applies Nissan’s e-4orce all-wheel drive technology. The MM48 in use here features a bigger output of 135 horsepower (100 kW) and 195 Nm of torque. Plus, by integrating chassis control technology with its dual motor setup, it raises driving performance and confidence on a wide variety of road surfaces.

The X-Trail e-Power is capable of hitting 19 km/L based on WLTPC testing protocols.

The X-Trail e-Power also gains e-Power Step which reduces the need to apply the brakes by providing deceleration when the accelerator pedal is released. The function provides increased comfort and a smoother drive on city roads, slippery surfaces, and downhill slopes.

It also comes equipped with Nissan’s Safety Assist 360 which uses cameras and radars to constantly monitor the vehicle’s surroundings and take safety steps, such as applying the brakes autonomously, if necessary. It also has active LED headlights and ProPilot Park which controls not just the steering, but the accelerator, brakes, and gear shifting to make parking easier.

In terms of comfort features, the X-Trail gets a 12.3-inch advanced driver assist display with two modes, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, a large 10.8-inch heads-up display, a Bose sound system, and a 100-volt inverter.

It goes on sale in Japan where it has a starting price of 3,198,800 yen (P 1,306,048), topping out at 3,930,300 yen (P 1,604,714).
