Sony, Honda's Jointly Developed EV To Be Built In The U.S.

After announcing a joint-venture last June to build and sell premium EVs, Honda and Sony have confirmed that their new EV will be built at a North American Honda plant. It will be exported to other markets such as Japan, with customer deliveries slated to start by the first part of 2026.

Sony Honda Mobility, Inc., as the newly formed company is formally known has confirmed that the upcoming EV will feature lots of technology from Sony including infotainment systems, software, and sensors. Meanwhile, Honda will be responsible for manufacturing and procurement. The new vehicle will be sold primarily online.

The company says the U.S. was chosen as the production site because it is one of Honda’s most important markets. Moreover, that country is advancing rapidly in EV development and market acceptance. However, they have not ruled out expanding production to its home market of Japan someday. European sales are also under consideration.

Sony Honda Mobility will start taking orders for the new car in the first half of 2025.
