Feast Your Eyes On The 182-Horsepower 2024 Subaru Impreza

The all-new Subaru Impreza has made its world debut bringing with it an all-new design, improved performance, enhanced safety features, and updated multimedia features.

The 2024 Impreza gets streamlined with Subaru dropping the sedan. The sole body style is a 5-door hatchback which will arrive in its launch market, the United States, in early 2023.

Style-wise, it’s basically the all-new Crosstrek minus the SUV elements. Still, the new Impreza marks the return of the “RS” trim—a enthusiast-focused variant which was considered as the precursor to the WRX in the U.S. market. This variant adds 18-inch alloy wheels in a dark gray finish as well as a black finish on the front grille, side spoilers, and side mirrors. It also gets upgraded LED headlights and front fog lights.

All Impreza variants receive a revised Subaru Global Platform with a 10 percent improvement in torsional rigidity. A full inner frame construction and additional structural adhesive contribute to a stiffer body and lighter weight. All in all, these updates should deliver improved handling, a smoother ride, and a quieter cabin. It also gets the WRX’s dual-pinion steering rack for a more direct steering feel.

Powering the Impreza is a standard 2.0-liter direct-injected horizontally-opposed 4-cylinder engine with 152 horsepower and 196 Nm of torque. Opting for the Impreza RS bumps that up to a 2.5-liter unit with 182 horsepower and 241 Nm of torque. The sole gearbox is a CVT with an 8-speed manual mode and paddle shifters. Higher trim models also get the Subaru SI-Drive.

Inside, work has been done to improve overall comfort with a more supportive front seat design and a focused effort to reduce external noise. At the center is a 11.6-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen with Starlink. It now comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as wireless device charging. Dual zone climate control is standard while other comfort features include a power moonroof, 10-speaker Harman Kardon speaker system, and a 10-way power front seat.

For safety, the Impreza gets the latest version of EyeSight. Improvements which include a wider field of view, updated control software, and the addition of an electric brake booster, can now identify bicycles and pedestrians at intersections sooner and, when necessary, alerts the driver and applies brakes to avoid collisions. On variants equipped with blind spot detection with lane keep assist and rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency steering has been added.

Subaru has confirmed that the all-new Impreza will not be a U.S.-market exclusive. It will be made available, in time, to other global markets. Of course, that does not automatically mean that the Philippines will get it. In 2020, Philippine distributor Motor Image Pilipinas quietly axed the compact sedan after originally announcing a delay in the arrival of the refreshed version.

    1. The wheels? They look to be the exact same ones found in the current WRX.

    2. If you meant the side profile...yeah...the front overhang looks massive.
