The Top 10 finalists for the 2022-2023 Japan Car of the Year (JCOTY) have been announced, and for the first time ever, a Korean car has made it to the list.
The all-electric Ioniq 5, Hyundai’s first purpose-built EV has been selected among the 10 best cars (11 technically because of a tie in voting). It, along with the 10 others in this list, beat out 48 potential candidates for the Japanese auto industry’s highest honor.
In February of this year, Hyundai entered the Japanese market by offering smart, sustainable automobiles with zero emissions. Currently, the brand only offers the Ioniq 5 EV and the Nexo Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV).
