2023 Mitsubishi Xpander Cross Launching On January 26

Heads-up, 7-seater SUV/MPV buyers: the refreshed Mitsubishi Xpander Cross is launching this January 26, 2023.

Of course, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines is keeping full details of the updated 7-seater SUV under wraps, but it shouldn’t differ much from the global model launched just last August. Like the updated Xpander MPV, it features the newest iteration of the Dynamic Shield face which is now connected to a more aggressive front clip. The bumpers are now chunkier, while the re-shaped fender flares ride over the new 17-inch alloy wheels. All in all, the re-design looks to befit its SUV-like positioning. It also happens to get the same T-shaped head- and taillights lit by LEDs. The front fog lights are now lit by LEDs as well.

Inside, the 2023 Xpander Cross builds on the Xpander Cross’s latest update by getting an 8-inch digital gauge cluster and four-spoke steering wheel seemingly borrowed from the Montero Sport. The Philippine model could also benefit from new convenience features such as a wireless device charger and a high-efficiency air filter. The rest of the cabin carries over from the new horizontal dashboard with soft-touch padded material, the black/blue color scheme, and leather seats covered with Heat Guard technology.

Mechanically, the 2023 Xpander Cross is the same as the revamped Xpander. It uses the tried-and-tested 1.5-liter (4A91) with 105 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque. Global markets swapped the 4-speed automatic for a CVT, but it remains to be seen which transmission the Philippine-spec model will have since the refreshed Xpander kept the torque converter.

A noteworthy addition to the 2023 model is the addition of Active Yaw Control (AYC). This system, derived from Mitsubishi’s WRC know-how, allows this 7-seater SUV to selectively apply the brakes of the inside wheels when cornering to reduce understeer. It also comes a 360-degree camera along with standard ABS with EBD and stability control.

Handling-wise, it also features an updated suspension where the rigidity of the front strut mounting part is improved, and the cylinder size of the rear shock absorber is expanded, while high-performance valves are newly adopted at both the front and rear to provide a smooth and comfortable ride.

Pricing is yet another closely guarded secret, but expect a small price bump over the current Xpander Cross which is priced at P 1,280,000.

  2. I'm expecting this to be priced at around ₱1.3M. The specs looks promising, even if it only has dual front airbags but hopefully it gets CVT this time. The 6 or 7 airbag might probably be featured in the 2nd gen Xpander instead should the 1st gen is really not designed to have side and side curtain airbags.

    1. Trading the battle tested but ancient 4AT to non-reliable JATCO CVT, better off to a reliable part. Fuel consumption difference between the two is not that much.
