Mitsubishi Gives Xpander Cross Tweaks For 2022

The refreshed Xpander for 2022 may have garnered all the attention for Mitsubishi yesterday, but it doesn’t mean that its SUV-looking variant, the Xpander Cross didn’t get any updates. Like the regular Xpander, the Xpander Cross also sees some upgrades for the 2022 model year.

Admittedly, by looking at the exterior, it’s hard to tell the difference. Unlike the Xpander, the Xpander Cross doesn’t benefit from a front and rear re-design. In fact, it sticks close to how it was when it was launched in 2019 save for two things: a new black metallic grille and silver-painted accents on the side moldings.

Inside is where the 2022 Xpander Cross benefits from a wealth of changes. Like the Xpander, the Xpander Cross gets a new horizontal dashboard with more soft-touch padded material than before. Instead of a black/tan color scheme though, the Xpander Cross has a sportier-looking black/blue one. The leather seats themselves are finished with Heat Guard as not to make them sizzling hot under the tropical heat.

Other changes, also found in the Xpander, are the new steering wheel, a digital-type AC display, second row arm rests with cup holders, center floor console with arm rest, and rear USB charging ports. The biggest differentiator of the Xpander Cros (aside from the color scheme) is a larger 9-inch infotainment screen (up one inch versus the Xpander).

The 2022 Xpander Cross, like the Xpander, also swaps its 4-speed automatic for a CVT and also gains an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with auto hold. Weirdly enough, the Xpander Cross loses one of its biggest differentiators versus the regular Xpander since the MPV version now rides just as high with up to 220 mm in ground clearance.

The 2022 Xpander Cross, like the regular Xpander will be made available first in Indonesia, but plans are already underway to export them to more markets including the Philippines by next year.
