Hyundai Aims To Improve Customer Trust, Safety As They Roll Out More EVs In 2023

At their first face-to-face New Year’s townhall in three years, Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) outlined its strategic vision for 2023. The group, which includes not just Hyundai but Kia as well as the upscale Genesis brand, hopes to consolidate its leadership in the EV space, while also garnering better trust not just with shareholders but with customers and owners as well.

Continuing the success of its Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 (see lead photo), Hyundai will be launching a variety of EVs ranging from simple, light vehicles to flagship vehicles. Confirmed to arrive this year are three all-new EVs: the Kia EV9 (previewed as the Concept EV9) as well as the Hyundai Ray EV, and the Kona EV.

Following the lead of the Kia Niro Plus which is developed using the PBV or Purpose Built Vehicle strategy, HMG will be releasing vehicles riding on a “skateboard” platform by 2025.

By the same year, HMG will provide Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates to all models sold globally. They will even provide access to subscription functionality to “provide continuous innovative services.”

As both Hyundai and Kia take on the challenge of electrification, HMG has highlighted quality and safety as means to build trust with customers globally.

Their push to improve vehicle safety is highlighted by the appointment of a Chief Safety Officer (CSO).

Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group said:
“We must remain committed to our pledge toward quality and safety, and only then will our customers believe in us and support our path to change and growth.”

“Quality is a priority for all of us. From product planning to design, production, sales, and after-sales maintenance, all teams and employees must place quality and the customer as the top priority. We must all go above and beyond to earn the respect and loyalty of our customers.”
He also expressed his strong commitment to safety.
“Our commitment to safety is not just about meeting external regulations. It’s about recognizing the priceless value of life and the principle of always making the best effort, which drives us to place safety of our customers and employees as the foremost priority.”
