Just How Big Are Toyota Motor Philippines' Sales Numbers?

Toyota is probably only car brand capable of hitting the 10,000 units a month sales range consistently. Just last January, the country’s number one automaker managed to move 13,428 units or a 45.42 percent market share. Their closest rival, Mitsubishi is way behind with just 17 percent market share (5,030 units sold).

At a glance, those numbers already look crazy big, but let’s put things into perspective.

Picking out their best-selling vehicle, the Vios, Toyota managed to sell 2,598 of them in a single month alone; that’s more than what both Mazda (1,591) and Subaru (1,124) sold the entire 2022! Just the best-selling Vios variant alone—the 1.3 E CVT—sold 2,103 units! Bonkers, right?

Even when it comes to more niche products like the Camry. Toyota sold 15 of them in just a month—that is almost the Honda Accord’s entire 2022 sales (18 units).

Elsewhere, the Innova continues to be Toyota’s best-selling Commercial Vehicle (CV) with the best-selling variant being the 2.8 E AT with 953 sold, followed by the 2.8 J MT with 137 units. The Fortuner sold 1,003 units with Pinoy buyers almost evenly split between the 2.4 4x2 G AT (287) and 2.4 4x2 V AT (224).

The Hilux, meanwhile, sold 1,261 units with the 4x2 Conquest AT being the top choice (278) followed by the 4x4 Conquest AT (209). By comparison, Nissan sold 924 Navaras, while Ford sold 874 Rangers in January. For Nissan, the best-selling variant was the Navara VE Calibre 4x2 AT with 300 sold, followed by the Navara 4x4 Pro-4X with 243. On the other hand, for the Ranger, it was the Wildtrak 4x4 with 267 sold followed by the Ranger Wildtrak 4x2 with 171 units.

When it comes to Lexus models, the best-selling nameplate last month was the Lexus ES which sold 26 units. This is followed by the Lexus IS with 19 sold with an overwhelming number going for the IS 300h (17 units).

  3. I don't think we can compare the vios vs mazda & subaru vehicles in terms of total number of units sold as they are in different categories and market. The vios in terms of qty or number units sold may overwelm both mazda & subaru but in terms of cost there is a big difference for the vios with less than 1M ave price vs mazda & subaru w/ ave price of +/-2M/unit.

  5. You will be a fool to buy an overpriced Yaris which is a chopped Vios. Back then Yaris is cheaper than the Vios then pricing became a bit strange.
