Fernando Alonso's 2002 Enzo Ferrari Just Sold For P 325.8-Million

Two-time Formula One World Champion Fernando Alonso has sold his 2002 Ferrari Enzo for €5,400,000 (P 325.811 million).

The auction, the centerpiece of the first-ever L’AstaRossa fetched €400,000 (P 24.133 million) more than the initial estimate released last June 1.

Sold directly from the private collection of the two-time Formula One World Champion, the Enzo is widely considered to be the hyper car that defined the breed. Its bold design, legendary performance and stunning engine note made the car an instant icon.

Following in the footsteps of the prized Ferrari 288 GTO, F40 and F50, the Enzo utilized a carbon fiber and Nomex honeycomb monocoque chassis and an all-new six-liter V12 engine, capable of hitting a 7,800 rpm red line. Both elements drew on the technology and expertise afforded by Ferrari’s illustrious Formula One program. Today, more than 20 years after the car was unveiled, the 3.1-second 0 to 100 km/h time and top speed in excess of 350 km/h still holds up against many modern performance cars.

In addition to the provenance afforded by its esteemed ownership, Alonso’s former Enzo carries the added significance of being ‘Scocca n.1’ – the first body manufactured – which is confirmed by the car’s Ferrari Classiche red book. The car boasts just 4,800 kilometers on the odometer and is sold fresh from an overhaul commissioned by its previous owner.

Those attending the auction both in person and online were shown an exclusive video message from the Formula One star, congratulating the prospective new owner on their sensational purchase. Alonso said: “It means a lot to me, and I’ve had a great time with the car – it’s a magic piece of art. I know that it’s going to be in good hands… please take care of the car and enjoy it.”
