The Omoda 5 (And Jaecoo 7) Will Be Built At This Super Factory

The global, tech-driven ambitions of Omoda must have the manufacturing facility to match. That’s why every Omoda, and in turn, every Jaecoo is built at one of so-called Super Factories.

Considered as a “beacon plant” when it comes to Chinese manufacturing prowess, the Wuhu Super Factory employs a high degree of automation and digitalization which is at par with luxury brands.

In lockstep with the so-called fourth industrial revolution or Industry 4.0 which is all about smart and autonomous systems fueled by data and machine learning, it streamlines the entire production process and reduces factory defects resulting in higher quality products.

Covering an area of 830,000 square meters and a building area of around 550,000 square meters, the Wuhu Super Factory can assemble New Energy Vehicles (battery electric and plug-in hybrid) and combustion engine vehicles on the same line. Furthermore, up to 10 new-generation platforms can be accommodated. Its annual capacity? In excess of 300,000 units and a further 200,000 CKD kits.

In terms of welding, Omoda says they’ve adopted the world’s “strongest AI quality control system” in its process. It boasts of more than 300 robots with measurements done 100 percent of the time. Such is the precision of the welding accuracy that the discrepancy is down to just 0.1 mm.

Furthermore, the entire production process is almost fully automated. The Wuhu Super Factory employs more than 100 Autonomous Mobile Robots or AMRs to streamline material. These vision-guided AMR and use of robotics throughout the assembly process—the same used by western automakers—have helped Omoda and its parent company, Chery Auto, reduce factory defects to less than two vehicles per 1,000.

The Wuhu Super Factory is also the location of one of the largest and most comprehensive crash test and NVH laboratories in Asia.

The NVH laboratory can do the complete vehicle NVH development process. Tests of the whole vehicle, subsystems, and individual parts can be done in-house. This has helped reduce idling noise to as low as 34 decibels for the Omoda 5. Meanwhile, the crash test laboratory performs up to 400 crash tests annually. This is instrumental in making the Omoda 5 a 5-star-rated vehicle at both the Euro NCAP and ANCAP. Furthermore, crash tests are done at various stages of a vehicle’s life from prototyping, to production, to even after a couple of years of use ensuring that they safe throughout its life cycle.

A new Color Creation lab also helps Omoda evaluate interior and exterior finishes and colors. The process includes extensive sampling and formulation testing ensuring that vehicle colors will have a uniform appearance, provide proper adhesion, and extended durability when it moves from concept to production.

Omoda and Jaecoo see the Philippines as a strategic market. With a visit to their Super Factory in Wuhu, it has helped give a more tangible grasp of their philosophy, research capability, and manufacturing scale.

  1. Nice, but reliability and durability of its engine and transmission is the litmus test.

  2. "Such is the precision of the welding accuracy that the discrepancy is down to just 0.1 mm."

This is not even enough to make a proper ballpoint pen or a door hinge. Jesus Christ...

    1. Putting the cart aHead of the horse 🤣🤣🤣Sorry to disappoint but its definitely not world class in quality and soon sales figures will surely disappoint. I doubt if ever it could break into top ten in its home market china and here in ph even in top 20 it will have a hard time. Many china car brands are way ahead of it, for now BYD is the only china homegrown car brand that is world class.

  4. Omoda and Jaecoo are gonna enter the UK and European markets next year that's why they've increased the quality of the SUVs they've produced
Chery positioned the Omoda and Jaecoo as a direct rival of SAIC's MG car brand in the European markets.
Omoda 5 is much better than its direct rival the MG HS SUV.

  7. Some people are intimidated with Chery and its sub brands as the quality, safety and performance of their vehicles are rapidly improving.

    1. Some people are doubtful with Chery due to its previous run here. I personally have to see a decaying Chery hatchback on a vacant lot everytime I drive in and out of our village.

    2. Intimidated??? 🤣🤣🤣chery has been around 4 years here already and has more or less 30 dealerships all over ph and yet they sold only 400 cars last july and CAPTURED 1% of ph car market. Very intimidating talaga chery

    1. Tiggo 7 pro 1.5L engine was confirmed knock knocking everytime it uses fuel with below 100 octane rating, only a handful of fuel stations selling fuel with 100 octane.

    1. Not everyone but 50% of ph car buyers go for toyota. Not everyone will fall for fancy marketing of omoda, even its parent brand chery captured only 1% of ph car market in 4 years of its existence. Offering low down financing to increased sales but to no avail.
