BYD Cars PH Launches Luxurious eMAX 9 DM-i MPV With P 2.678M Starting Price (w/ Specs)

BYD Cars Philippines launches its largest and most luxurious yet: the eMax 9 DM-i luxury MPV. The eMax 9 DM-i is targeted at progressive buyers who seek prestige and safety, without sacrificing practicality and a smart ownership experience. Watch our first impressions here.

Measuring in at 5,145 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, and 1,805 mm in height, the eMax 9 DM-i is a stately luxury 7-seater (2+2+3) MPV blending BYD’s signature style with a classic silhouette. Standard features include LED headlights and taillights, a sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, sequential turn signal lights, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

For the Philippine market, the eMax 9 DM-i comes in three exterior colors: Aurora White, Cosmos Black, and Deep Sea Blue.

Inside, the eMax 9 DM-i offers a spacious experience for seven. The driver’s seat is power adjustable in 8 ways, while the front passenger seat offers 4-way power adjustment. On the top-of-the-line Premium variant, the second-row captain’s seats also offer 6-way power adjustment with side wings integrated onto the headrests and an adjustable footrest. Moreover, the first and second row seats offer both ventilation and massaging functions. The third-row folds and tumbles to form a fully-flat load space. The 60/40 split-fold adds versatility, with the Premium offering a one-touch power mechanism for ease of use.

The eMax 9 DM-i also offers first-class amenities including a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a tri-zone climate control with AC vents spanning all rows. For the Premium variant, there’s a 12-speaker sound system (four more than the Advanced), 128-color user adjustable ambient lighting, a 50-watt wireless charger, and a built-in car refrigerator that can fit 6 bottles.

Depending on the variant, there are two interior colorways available: black for the Advanced variant and beige/brown for the Premium variant.

Powering the eMax 9 DM-i is BYD’s trademark Super DM-i powertrain. The electric motor produces a healthy 271 horsepower and 315 Nm of torque, enough for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint of 8.4 seconds. The large BYD Blade Battery (sized either 20.4 kWh or 36.6 kWh) enables an EV cruising range of up to 100 kilometers and a cumulative range above 1,000 kilometers. The battery can be charged using either AC or DC charging, with the latter taking just 30 minutes. A portable charging cable, 7-kW wall box charger, and V2L adapter are included with every purchase.

Keeping the eMax 9 DM-i both a competent handler and a comfortable family MPV, it has independent suspension all around. The Premium variant goes further with adaptive dampers which BYD calls DiSus-C Intelligent Suspension.

When it comes to safety, BYD doesn’t cut any corners with the eMax 9 DM-i. Aside from offering up to 8 SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree panoramic camera with see through view, the Premium variant adds the full suite of DiPilot ADAS. This offers a high level of confidence and peace of mind with features such as front and rear collision warning, lane departure assistance, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, intelligent high beam, and more.

And like other BYD models, the eMax 9 DM-i promises a low cost of ownership. Based on internal data, its 5-year preventive maintenance cost adds up to just P 57,312. This is compared to its competition which can be as much as P 151,933.67. Factoring in the cost of fuel, the total cost of savings can be up to 40 percent lower than its rivals. This is, of course, on top of the 6-year vehicle warranty, 8-year electric battery warranty, and 8-year drive unit warranty.

The BYD eMax 9 DM-i is available in two variants at the following prices:
  • BYD eMax 9 DM-i Advanced – P 2,678,000
  • BYD eMax 9 DM-i Premium – P 2,998,000

  3. Will wait for these to depreciate quickly after 3-5 years then buy one. Probably would retain 30-40% of its value by then.

  4. Not gonna lie, I thought this was a Toyota Alphard at first glance. Be prepared for people to call you a social climber who can't afford an Alphard if you buy this. Other than that, this is a nice car with features even the Alphard doesn't have.

    5. Oh man, it must be horrible to ONLY have 3mil to spend on a car you'd be chauffeured in!

I'd personally go for a CyberTruck since it's worth 12mil+, because who cares about looking like you're riding in a futuristic dumpster when the purchase price of the car is all that matters? πŸ’…

    6. BYD has a history of taking “inspiration” from other brands. The fascia of the eMax 9 looks like a Toyota Alphard, the Sealion 6 looks like a a Porsche Cayenne, while the Seagull looks like a Lamborghini Huracan, etc., etc., etc. The lead designer of BYD coming from the Volkswagen Group doesn’t help in developing a distinct design language, the kind that would scream from a distance that a car is uniquely a BYD. While some BYD cars have original designs, they look downright ugly. The Dolphin comes to mind.

I would posit that since people in the Philippines don't see a lot of Porsches then that Sealion 6 'look' becomes the identity of BYD here over the Porcshe due to that simple fact that there are just that many of them on the road. Doesn't matter which came first. But that's just me.

I would also like to mention that taking "inspiration" is very common across basically all car companies. Go through enough car review videos/articles and you'll frequently see the host/author comparing (for example) a new European car to an older Japanese model from X decade because of the side-profile, the front/rear fascia, the head/tail lights, etc., and when looking at the comparison (not always but enough times) you'll say, "yeah, I can see that."

I've seen this presented from both sides where one says, "I don't like this because it looks too much like X" and the other one says, "It looks kind of like X so that's some familiarity that will resonate with buyers." So it really depends on the buyers which viewpoint they have.

    8. Lol. Dadali na naman ‘tong massive Tesla hater na ‘to. Bakit nakaladkad na naman ang Tesla dito? Did anyone else bring up Tesla? Leave it to butt-hurt BYD owners to always bring up Tesla! Tesla living rent-free in their small wallets and their even smaller kukotes!

P.S. Your BYD SL6 will never be a Porsche!

      Delete
    9. One should never purchase a vehicle unjustifiably concerned with what others think, say about the the vehicle, or it's owner because one as the owner will never be happy with the others choice of vehicle especially in cases where one consciously or unconsciously desires to please everyone.

I know of many instances but in this particular case, a friend living in the US that promptly purchased the new V8 BMW M3 when it first came out. A month later his brother who had a long passion for a Cayman S because of its body shape and almost 50-50 weight balance (true mid-engine layout), but had a budget for a 911 was seriously considering buying the Cayman S after having test driven the above V8 M3 and the iconic 911.

However, all the brothers closest relatives and friends, many of whom are Porsche 911 owners said to the brother contemplating on the Cayman S (and you guessed it) "your buying the poor man's 911! ", "you're buying a 911wannabe !", "the Cayman S is not a real Porsche !", etc., etc.

His standard response was " I don't have much passion for the V8 BMW or the 911", to which most everyone retorted that he would have immediate Buyer's Remorse within a week after getting the Cayman S.

3 weeks after he got his Cayman S, his brother promptly purchased a 911S. 6 months later this same brother bought another V8 M3 which he later sold after 2-3 months. A few years later this same brother bought a Macan S.

To make a long story short the brother who initially bought the V8 M3 currently has a 2014 911S, a Macan S & a 2024 Tesla Model Y LR AWD (repeatedly says to everyone that the Tesla is the most enjoyable daily driver among the 3).

The other brother who initially bought the Cayman S still has it
until today along with 1 other vehicle.

It is clearly obvious which brother had Buyer's Remorse on more than 1 occasion.

The moral of the story is that one should buy their "special" vehicle only if they have a passion for it. That way it is likely that one will not be affected, or worse bothered, by what others say and or believe about the car or him/her as the owner.

I'm one to criticize the choice of vehicles that my friends make. Usually because said vehicle does not meet their actual need, or the vehicle itself is unsafe/unreliable. However, I always end the conversation by telling them that it's their money, and that they should buy what they want.

    10. Holy S🀣🀣t! @ anon (Oct 27 11:03 PM)'s response 🀣

As if the CyberTruck is anything but a laughing stock kahit sa US. There's ZERO good reporting around it. Sales have been in the pooper. They're rotting on the lots. There are even mulitple recap videos talking about the failed promises since its announcement and how it's been overall a mistake for Tesla. Can you say ANYTHING positive about the truck? Don't bring up other Tesla stuff, just talk about the CyberTruck. Go ahead. πŸ’…

Triggered si kuya na feeling the need to defend their butt-of-a-joke product purely because Tesla🀣🀣🀣

(P.S. to your P.S. reading comprehension sana need mo. It was never about replacing Porsche. The point was that most people don't know what Porsche looks like here compared to mga BMWs and MBs so the average person isn't gonna associate the similar/copied stylings. Automatic inassume nyo na owners yung kausap nyo sa internet, mahirap ba makisabay kapag hindi surface level ang disscussion? πŸ€”πŸ˜)

    11. Lol. Who's defending the Cybertruck? The gall to call out someone's reading comprehension, when ikaw naman ang walang-wala nito! What a hypocrite! You dragged Tesla into this conversation when no one brought up the Cybertruck in the first place. You always find ways to bring up Tesla! Just goes to show how Tesla lives RENT-FREE in your head!

Lololol. Go cope and seethe harder, butt-hurt BYD SL6 owner, who will never be a Porsche Cayenne owner! Pang BYD ka lang! It must feel horrible that you have to settle for your wannabe-Porsche!

    12. Most Filipinos don't know what Porsches, BMWs, and Benzes look like, really? What an ignorant take. There's this thing called the internet, you're on it right now. Information is the most democratized commodity on Earth thanks to it.

      Delete
    13. @ anon Oct 28 8:05 PM

Not defending? What else would you expect people to think you're doing when only the CyberTruck is mentioned and someone goes full-on Tesla>BYD mode 🀣🀣🀣

ctrl-f this entire convo and check where else Tesla was mentioned to prompt your fanboy defense mode. Remember, no edits can be made on anon comments. The diss on the CyberTruck is the only Tesla-related part of this whole convo chain. You think that's uncalled for? People were talking about using cars as status symbols, and that (apparently) higher priced cars are even more of a status symbol. So, using it as an example is fairplay, dum-dum. Sensitive topic pala yan sayo? Off-limits ba? lol

Not only is your reading comprehension 0 so is your logic association. Failing to follow the context of the convo chain is a prime example. You can't turn that around on someone else when you keep making mistakes. Tsk tsk tsk.

Speaking of BYD, you think I'm an SL6 owner? Ha! F-ck em. BYD and Tesla are all soul-less greed-driven corpos. No matter how many exclamation points you use (!πŸ˜„) you can't get any hits if your assumption is wrong from the start, so, sorry ka lang 🀣

I find it unceasingly hilarious how you think the only reason someone would bash your favorite brand is that they support the other team (and are seemingly incapable of actually arguing the merits of your sacred brand when actually asked to)πŸ€ͺ

Between the two of us it's obvious whose gone deep sucking up corpo propaganda and defending them like it's a team sport. lol

Also, I can taste the quivering anger you have in your typed-out words. 🫣 Maybe, lay-off and disconnect from the internet for a bit? That can't be good for your blood pressure. πŸ˜‡

Kahit nka Porsche ka pa or whatever high class car (compared to whatever poor car I own 😟huhu😒) it's evident you can't just buy the ability to properly use the English language. πŸ’…

      @anon 8:48 PM

Another one who's unable to read properly. The statement read, "most people don't know what Porsche looks like here compared to mga BMWs and MBs". Note the use of "compared to". People here know what Benzes and Beemers look like but are much less familiar with Porches. This is also influenced by the sheer difference of number of MBs and BMWs on the road compared to Porches, even in old timey Filipino media you NEVER see Porches only the other brands. Go conduct a study on that, I'll bet good money on it. If you are well-educated, then you are more likely to have been exposed to knowledge about Porsche. That's a privileged bias. Also, not everyone is terminally online, and people who simply regularly read car news can already be called enthusiasts, that's how niche the interest is. A lot of people will claim to be knowledgeable on cars will fail basic questions about car operations and how parts work when probed further. Exposed to the internet or not, the average person is dumb. You really can't argue against that. πŸ˜…
