The car that helped Geely overthrow BYD as China’s best-selling car brand is coming to the Philippines. The EX2, a pure electric hatchback, is poised to compete against the likes of the BYD Seagull and Dolphin and even the likes of the Honda Brio and Toyota Vios when it launches here as part of Geely Motor Philippines’ product salvo.
In 2025, the EX2 became China’s best-selling vehicle and the world’s best-selling A/B segment vehicle thanks to a full-year sales of 465,775 units. In 14 months, it achieved cumulative sales of more than 500,000 making it the fastest EV to achieve the milestone between 2024-2025.
The EX2 helped propel Geely to 1.24 million units sold in 2025—a 150 percent year-on-year increase. In the first two months of 2026, Geely delivered about 76,000 units more than BYD, which saw a 36 percent slump in the period.
Like the EX5, the EX2 is underpinned by the GEA platform. And thanks to that, it offers independent rear multi-link suspension and, get this, rear-wheel drive. It also has a minimum turning radius of 4.95 meters making it highly maneuverable in urban confines. Inside, it has 890 mm of rear seat knee room, a 70-liter front trunk, and a 375-liter rear trunk (it grows to 1,320 liters with the rear seats down).
Also, like the EX5, the EX2 uses Geely’s 11-in-1 electric drive (boy, the Chinese love their numbers) achieving high efficiency and power output. Power configuration, depending on the variant can either be 78 horsepower (58 kW) or 114 horsepower (85 kW) enough for a sub-10-second 0 to 100 km/h time. The short blade battery is also liquid cooled.
For markets like the Philippines, where interest in electrified mobility continues to grow, the likes of the EX2 highlights Geely’s broader direction toward sustainable mobility and advanced automotive technologies, assuming they get to fix their issues surrounding dealer support, aftersales service, and overall customer experience.

ReplyDeleteDid you read beyond the headline? If you did, you'll realize the post is clearly referring to the Chinese market. The Geely Xingyuan and the Wuling Hongguang are constantly trading first and second place as China's bestselling car.
