It has finally happened. After both Thailand and Malaysia gained access to the refreshed Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport, Toyota Motor Philippines has done the same.
As a bit of a history lesson, when Toyota launched the updated Corolla Cross in 2024, they left out the GR Sport variant untouched design-wise. It didn’t even update it when the crossover switched to a lithium-ion battery pack for its HEV powertrain last year.
It seems that Toyota Motor Philippines has simply been saving everything for a 2026 update as the new Corolla Cross GR Sport has arrived with a starting price of P 1,947,000 for Platinum White/Attitude Black 2-Tone and tops out at P 1,952,000 for the Emotional Red/Attitude Black 2-Tone.
The changes are all aesthetic. Short of tacking on the hammerhead fascia, the 2026 Corolla Cross GR Sport gets a new grille that protrudes more thanks to a body-colored frame. Within it is a honeycomb insert and a GR badge. Other changes include a new lower front bumper design with a gun metallic garnish. At the side, the 2026 model now gets material black rocker and door moldings, while at the rear, it has a gun metallic rear garnish on the updated bumper and black chrome badging for that sportier touch.
Inside, the Corolla Cross GR Sport gets new seats with a full-color GR logo embroidered on the headrests. The GR logo also appears on the steering wheel as well. Capping off the changes are red stitching on the steering wheel, seats, dashboard, and armrests and seatbelts finished in the same racy color. In-vehicle tech and features remain the same as before.
As for performance, the Corolla Cross GR Sport continues with the same 1.8-liter 2ZR-FXE which puts out a total of 122 horsepower (98 horsepower from the combustion engine and 72 horsepower from the electric motor). It also has an exclusive sport suspension tune with modified springs and struts.
For the price, just add 200k more and get a Rav4 ADV instead

Outdated, underpowered & tight interior space. Might as well go for the all new Rav4 if you're a Toyota die hard fan.

The quality is there if you pay for it and you have people crying about Chinese car subsidies, so where are those subsidies going to exactly?
DeleteLook at teardown/inspection videos of Chinese cars (especially by Australian youtubers) and you can hear them talk about how the quality is good or bad vs other brands (hint: they have been frequently surprised by what they saw).
Toyota needs to update the interior of the Corolla Cross if they want to compete well. It’s too plasticky and feels old. It’s nice with those GR bits and stuff but of course it would be better with a new sportier interior. Just my two cents.
ReplyDeleteThis car seems to be losing its identity and role in the lineup. If it doesn’t sell well, Toyota may be better off bringing the GR Rav4 and dropping this car.
