After being previewed at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), Denza is finally launching the much-awaited B5 and B8 luxury SUVs.
Whereas the rest of the Denza range will carry an alphanumeric naming convention that spells out “DENZA,” the B5 and B8 are outliers given that they originated as Fangchengbao (Formula Leopard) models in its home country of China.
Both the B5 and B8 are rugged body-on-frame SUVs, riding on BYD/Denza’s DMO platform that’s been popularized by the BYD Shark 6. The very same Cell-to-Chassis construction—wherein the Lithium Iron Phosphate battery is structurally integrated into the chassis—remains giving these two SUVs excellent rigidity and solidity.
The B5 and B8 feature advanced powertrains. The 5-seater B5 has a 1.5-liter turbocharged generator (183 horsepower) paired with dual motors for 570 horsepower and 760 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the B8 comes with a more robust 2.0-liter turbocharged generator (245 horsepower) with dual motors for 611 horsepower and 760 Nm of torque. In both cases, they go from 0 to 100 km/h in a supercar-like 4.8 seconds.
The B8 has a slightly larger 36.8 kWh LFP battery, while the B5 has a 31.8 kWh LFP battery. Either way, they promise at least 100 kilometers in pure electric range and a maximum cruising range close in the range of 1,000 kilometers.
The dual motor design also features electromechanical front and rear locking differentials, several driving modes, a unique Leopard Turn that reduces the turning radius, and in the case of the B8, an active suspension system (DiSus-P) with adjustable ride height.
Besides power, both models are speced to the brim. For exterior features, the Denza B5 features advanced matrix LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, sound insulating glass, panoramic sunroof, soft-closing rear door, and 265/65R18 tires. Inside, it has a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster, 15.6-inch center control screen, dual zone climate control with rear vents, a built-in refrigerator, 16-speaker Devialet speaker system, power front seats with built-in ventilation and massagers, and DiPilot ADAS.
On the other hand, the Denza B8 comes in two variants—the Dynamic and the Premium. Both offer three rows of seats, but the Dynamic has a 7-seater configuration (2+3+2), while the Premium has a more luxurious 6-seater configuration (2+2+2). Exterior features somewhat echo the B5 but come with 275/55R20 wheels and tires. Inside, you get a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster, a 17.3-inch center console screen, tri-zone climate control with rear vents, built-in refrigerator, 18-speaker Devialet speaker system, power front seats with built-in ventilation and passengers, power second- and third-row seats, and DiPilot ADAS.
The Denza B5 comes in six colors: Glacier Blue, Juniper Green, Granite Gray, Eclipse Black, Alpine White, and Leopard Gold, while the Denza B8 comes in five: Nebula Silver, Alpine White, Eclipse Black, Emerald Green, and Dawn Gold.
Pricing for the Denza B5 is set at P 3,798,000, while for the Denza B8, it starts at P 4,998,000 for the 7-seater Dynamic and P 5,398,000 for the 6-seater Premium. An exclusive discount of P 300,000 will be offered during the April 24-26 launch weekend.

too expensive for a Chinese car.
ReplyDeleteAnyone here willing to she'll out P4M+ for made in China luxury car?
ReplyDeleteThe first 30 units were turned over to customers last night. And according to them, the D9 already has 200 reservations.
Deleteprobably bought by Chinese only
DeletePogo bosses mostly rode Lexus LM and Alphard.
DeletePeople who bought denza probably got sales talked brutally. Chinese people in pogo here buy lexus and alphard, that is right.
DeleteThat's the only way chinese cars get sold, get a bunch of people who doesn't know a lot about cars then zone in on the sales pitch.
"only way Chinese cars get sold"
DeleteSomething tells me you don't have friends to give you perspective on big spending decisions like buying cars. 😄
My heart says prado and my mind says b5 but my pocket says tiggo cross hev.. yeah okay maybe when thieves decide to throw their maletas in my frontyard out of their panic to get caught, then and only then maybe i'll be able to drive home a b5 coz i'm a bad person.
ReplyDeleteBYD and Denza is now considered a global brand with presence to more than 100 countries worldwide. Canada is next. Outside of China, sales is expected to hit 2M units this year.
ReplyDeletechina cars naman are considered glibal brands they just do nit command the global respect
ReplyDeleteTOTL B5’s SRP in China is around 2.6M.
ReplyDeleteEven at intro price of 3.5M - its way overpriced, let alone 3.8M
That's Ayala pricing
DeleteBlame our VAT rate and excise tax rate then plus shipping costs. For me, the B5's price is on the sweet spot especially that it's considered as a Prado and Lexus GX competitor. It's the B8's price that I find too expensive especially that it really didn't undercut the Land Cruiser 300 and the Patrol that much.
DeleteAyala doesn't distribute Denza...they're only a dealer. They distribute but don't import BYD. BYD Philippines is the sole importer of BYD cars, and Ayala is the sole distributor.
DeletePeople can't grasp that Chinese price war prices aren't going to be the same once exported. That goes for all brands btw.
DeleteWhy expensive if it’s electrified? Due to luxury tax?
DeleteDenza PH’s pricing is mostly positioning rather than these economics considering the competition from legacy brands is already overpriced.
DeleteId wager, Denza PH’s landed cost is only around Php2M to Php2.2M for the B5. So thats a whopping 1.6M to 1.8M margin (almost 50% on SRP). Early buyers are effectively financing Denza’s marketing budget to build its premium positioning.
Sir Uly, if you have the money to buy a Denza B5/B8 or Lexus GX/LX, what would you choose and why?
ReplyDeleteThis low spec and only version of the B5 they're selling is priced higher than the top spec versions they do sell in other countries. Total ripoff.
ReplyDeleteCan DENZA cars be serviced at BYD dealerships like what LEXUS and Toyota has done? This can be a very good pro if they follow the Lexus toyota strategy.
ReplyDeleteI'd assume so. BYD dealerships will actually service any EV regardless of brand. I saw a few Wulings being serviced one time and I confirmed with the staff that they will service any brand EV.
Deletei was doing the math before and was interested in a B8. Looking at Australian prices where they were launched earlier, prices for the B8 should not be more than 4.4M. Looking at the other vehicles of BYD, they are very similar to our prices. I guess they want to make Denza more of a signature product that only the wealthy can afford. I cannot justify paying another million for this car especially we have price metrics to compare with. It does not make sense to me.
ReplyDeleteToo much money for unproven car
