Suzuki's Just Right Approach Will Have Them Making Their Own Hybrids, Direct Injected Turbos

Suzuki is taking on a “Just Right” approach to its vehicle development as it outlines its technology strategy for the next decade.

The small car specialist said that in light of a rapidly changing automotive landscape, it looks to continue minimizing energy consumption (whatever form it may be), while also maximizing its products’ essential value.

With a global sales footprint, Suzuki will adopt a “multi-pathway approach” allowing them to deploy fuel saving technologies considering a region’s energy circumstance (how energy is produced) as well as the infrastructure.

To that end, Suzuki will develop technologies such as its own in-house series HEVs, a new hybrid system (codenamed: Super Ene Charge), new direct-injection turbo engines, and two new platforms—the S Light and the SDV Lite. All these will reach the market within the next decade.

To realize this, Suzuki will cut new vehicle development lead time by half achieving a 30 percent improvement in development efficiency and a 50 percent improvement in manufacturing efficiency. The carmaker will do so through more digital engineering during the design and development process, and modularization during manufacturing.

Suzuki will optimize product-development and mass-production development for each market by leveraging technologies developed in Japan. Meanwhile, India will be further strengthened as a manufacturing and export hub for delivering products to its global markets with the aim of achieving an annual production capacity of approximately 4 million units by fiscal year 2030.
