2018 Ford Explorer Gets Cosmetic, Tech Tweaks

The unveil of yet another refresh for its mid-sized Explorer confirms it: 2017 (or maybe even 2018) will be a year of SUV bonanza for Ford. After showing off its all-new aluminum-bodied 2018 Expedition and the refreshed EcoSport in both the US and in Asia-Pacific, the Explorer now gets some tweaks in a bid to boost its appeal to the 35-44 year olds—the mid-sized and large SUV’s biggest demographic.

Review: 2016 Ford Explorer Sport V6 EcoBoost

Driving the Ford Explorer, particularly the Sport, feels like meeting an old friend. After driving it extensively at the height of Michigan winter, I feel like I’ve known its ins and outs quite well. So when Ford Philippines offered me an Explorer Sport for a week, one single question popped in my head: what new story can it tell? What more can I discover with this giant 7-seater luxury crossover with the heart of a muscle car?

Review: 2016 Ford Explorer Sport V6 EcoBoost

I read about it all the time in press kits: Ford doing extreme weather testing on their cars. And for a moment, I think: surely, this has got to be an exaggeration. No carmaker would go through the lengths of freezing cars in minus 40 Celsius. In a freezer. That is, until I found myself at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport trying to pick up the 2016 Explorer Sport in minus 17 Celsius.

Ford Philippines's 2015 Explorer Sport Delivers Muscle Car Performance for 7 Adults (w/ Brochure)

Who says having a family ends your dream of buying a muscle car? Well, it may not sport a two-door body, but the new 2015 Explorer Sport sure does come close in giving you muscle car performance wrapped in a very practical body. Alongside the Ford Escape, Ford Philippines unveiled the latest addition to their Explorer family, one that adds EcoBoost technology to the already potent 3.5-liter V6 engine.

Review: 2012 Ford Explorer 2.0 EcoBoost GTDi

Photos by Ulysses Ang
The all-new Ford Explorer with the 2.0 EcoBoost engine is still a month away (deliveries start in July), but this author is lucky enough to have sampled, by all intents and purposes, the “base” Explorer. Of course, the P 2.250-million price tag is anything but base, but it still saves you something like P 200,000 compared to the V6. As with anything that’s deemed to entry-level, expect the Explorer experience to be diluted. The question is, by how much? The Ford Explorer V6 has raised the bar quite a bit by providing excellent driving manners and numerous creature features at a truly competitive price. So, how will its little brother, the Explorer EcoBoost fair?

What to Expect When You're Expecting: Ford Explorer 2.0 EcoBoost

The all-new Ford Explorer with the 2.0 EcoBoost engine is still a full three months away, but we’ve been lucky enough to have sampled, by all intents and purposes, the entry-level Explorer. Of course, the P 2.350-million price tag is anything but entry-level, but it still saves you something like P 200,000 compared to the V6. However, as with anything that’s more affordable, expect the Explorer experience to be diluted. The question is, by how much? The Ford Explorer V6 has raised the bar quite a bit by providing excellent driving manners and numerous creature features at a truly competitive price. So, how will its little brother, the 2.0 EcoBoost fair? Without passing judgement (that will come at a later time), here’s what you can expect from the Explorer V6’s little brother.

MIAS 2012: Ford Debuts Ranger, Explorer EcoBoost and Mustang!

Clearly, Ford Group Philippines is capitalizing the fact that it's got the biggest area at the Manila International Auto Show (more than 1,000 square meters) to debut a slew of new models for the Philippine market. Meanwhile, the most significant news for Ford is the Philippine market introduction of the all-new Ranger pick-up truck.

The comprehensive safety story of the All-New Ford Explorer adds new features including the world’s first inflatable second-row seat belts.

Review: 2012 Ford Explorer 3.5 V6

It’s Tuesday morning. By all intents and purposes, the roads should be bustling with traffic: jeepneys plying their route, cars headed to school or to work. But this Tuesday is not your ordinary Tuesday. The monsoon downpour caused heavy floods last night and today, no one can go to work. In other words, today’s going to be hell. Going in and out of Marikina is a task left to the toughened, heavy-duty vehicles and the all-new Ford Explorer.

Review: 2005 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer

Elvis Presley, James Dean, Clint Eastwood—men with very different backgrounds, and yet, all have become at least during a part of their lives, the epitome of American cool.  Despite their varied styles of performing, they’ve managed to engrave themselves into the hearts and minds of one of the world’s finickiest markets: the United States.  Even more remarkable is how their topics of rebellion, realization and self-preservation translate so well even to the Filipino setting.
