Honda Cars Philippines is Recalling Recalled Accord, Civic, City, CR-V, and Jazz Units for Airbags

Three years ago, Honda Cars Philippines was one of many automakers who had to issue recalls due to defective Takata airbag inflators. At that time, 19,624 units were affected. And while they were able to fix some of them, it looks like they’ll have to rework 14,074 of these units.

Honda Civic, Jazz, and HR-V Score Poorly in Latest Headlight Evaluation Test

The US-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or IIHS just released their 2018 headlight evaluation and things are looking dim, literally, for owners of the Civic, Fit (our market Jazz), and HR-V. Review: 2018 Honda Jazz VX Navi

One of the first cars that I ever drove was a Honda Civic and compared to the other cars my family had at the time, I loved its feel. In this regard, I had high expectations for the Jazz. My initial doubts were not just about its size, but about how functional it can be for someone like me—a daily driver, likely to be caught in traffic 80 percent of time, with an allergy towards tight parking spaces and with little patience towards road hoarders.

Review: 2018 Honda Jazz RS

For the longest time, Jazz buyers would add a trunk badge that reads: “RS.” Whether that particular mod really adds five more horsepower is something best discussed for another day, but it just goes to show you that “Honda” and “sporty hatchback” sound like a match made in heaven. As Honda managed to get back into the sporty groove, they’ve begun to formally introduce the RS trim to the Filipino consumer. From the Mobilio to the Civic, and now the Jazz, here comes the Road Sailing (yes, that’s what it means) treatment.

Review: 2014 Honda Jazz 1.5 VX+ MUGEN

Photos by Ulysses Ang
There are hatchbacks and there is the Honda Jazz. From Generation One, the Jazz has always been known for combining a sharply styled body, stellar frugality, and mind-blowing interior packaging. Most importantly, it has made small hatchbacks cool again. Since then, a handful of competitors have entered, each outshining the Jazz in one aspect or another be it in terms of price, handling, interior technology or frugality. Nonetheless, the Jazz is still regarded as the most well-rounded hatchback of the bunch. And coming from that, here is the all-new, 2014 Jazz—a car that’s far better than its predecessor and one that simply towers ahead of the entire small hatchback segment.

There and Back Again: What Makes the All-new Honda Jazz Handle So Well

Photos by Ulysses Ang and Honda Press (Jam Ramos)
UPDATE: Here is our in-depth review of the Honda Jazz 1.5 VX+ MUGEN. (9/9/2014)

For those who say that there aren’t any good driving roads in the Philippines, I say you should go out more often. And though some so-called enthusiasts are more than happy pummeling the tires off their cars in a straight line (think NLEX, SLEX, or anything else ending in ‘EX’), real men like it bent. And twisty. And hardcore. Located a mere 15 kilometers or so east of the Ortigas Central Business District is the start of the infamous “Tanayburgring”—a clockwise loop of twisty, mountainous road stretching from Tanay, Rizal looping down to Quezon, Laguna, and Cavite before ending back up in Makati City. It’s a long, arduous route with no fancy pants coffee shop stopovers (at least for the first part) and one that really separates the men from the boys. So like a boy entering into puberty, I took to the Tanayburgring (well, at least a part of it) for the very first time and my weapon of choice: the all-new Honda Jazz.

Honda Lets Us Try Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) in the All-New Jazz and City

Safety is perhaps the least sexiest topic to talk about when it comes to cars. Styling, performance, and even space dictates a car buyer’s heart in choosing their next vehicle purchase even before the subject of airbags, brakes, and crash safety are even brought up. This lack of safety-consciousness is reflected quite well in the multitude of new cars available in the market today with either no or just the barest minimum of safety equipment. However, before reaching out for the car that gives you a GPS and DVD combo, it might a good idea to actually what new safety technology such as Vehicle Stability Assist can do for you.
