Hyundai Unveils All-New Sonata in Korea

Hyundai has finally taken the wraps off the all-new Sonata, a car that Hyundai calls “the first application of premium technologies first introduced in the Genesis”. The all-new Sonata features the next evolution of the company’s Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy, a much more subdued and refined design that promises a more athletic appearance.

The entire design focus of the all-new Sonata is “Inner Force” and most likely points out to the car’s highly rigid frame. The world-class mid-sized sedan has been further optimized to make it more structurally stiff with 41 percent greater torsional strength and 35 percent greater bending strength than the outgoing model. The all-new Sonata is also 35-mm longer and 30-mm wider than the previous Sonata, a marginal increase in exterior size that wields tremendous gains in internal volume.

The all-new Sonata also stays on with a family of formidable 4-cylinder engines with 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter displacements. Underneath, it carries advanced safety features such as Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Advanced Smart Cruise Control as well as rear parking sensors, heated leather seats, and even rear-side curtain airbags. The all-new Sonata also debuts the company’s next-generation infotainment system.

The all-new Sonata, the result of three years of development and an investment of approximately 450 billion Won (KRW), is scheduled to be launched outside Korea in the second half of this year. Hyundai Motor targets to sell a total of 228,000 units (Korea: 63,000 / Overseas: 165,000) for this year, while aiming to expand it up to 338,000 units (Korea: 89,000 / Overseas: 249,000) next year.
