Audi Philippines Launches the All-New Q7: the Great Quattro (w/ Specifications)

Audi Philippines is capping off 2015 by unveiling the ‘great quattro’—the all-new Q7 flagship SUV. Marking the second-generation model in this award-winning line, the all-new Q7 boasts of presence, precision, and performance keeping it solidly in place as the brand’s SUV cornerstone.

Capitalizing on their expertise in motorsport and of course, the corporate tagline of “Vorsprung Durch Technik” (Advancement Through Technology), the all-new Q7 boasts of a substantial weight loss (as much as 325 kilograms) without sacrificing safety and integrity. Apart from safety, the lighter weight Q7 also means less fuel consumption, more dynamic handling response, and improved acceleration and braking. The weight loss is thanks to a chassis made of hot-stamped high-strength steel and aluminum with doors, tailgate, hood, and fenders made completely out of aluminum.

In addition to its weight reduction program, the all-new Q7 is 37 millimeters shorter and 15 millimeters narrower than the first-generation model and yet, it provides a roomier interior with an additional 21 millimeters of space between the first and second rows. In addition, headroom has been improved by a staggering 41 millimeters in front and 23 millimeters at the back.

The sleeker design (co-efficient of drag at 0.32) leads to further reduction in fuel consumption and wind noise, especially at high speed. A rear-facing camera comes standard on both the 3.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI S Line variants adding to its maneuverability.

The exterior is much more aggressive on the all-new Q7 with angular fender flares that pay homage to the legendary Audi quattro models of old. The single-frame grille is also deeply sculpted and feature horizontal crossbars projecting an image of strength and confidence. Xenon/HID or Matrix LED headlights flank the grille, depending on the variant and options.

Inside, the Q7 features Audi’s breakthrough Virtual Cockpit with a 12.3-inch TFT display replacing the traditional instrument cluster. This allows the car to show a variety of engine and vehicle information, multimedia settings, and route guidance from the GPS/satellite navigation system easily. This customizable display is backed up by the newest version of the Multi Media Interface (MMI) with haptic feedback to improve usage.

As always, the Q7 boasts of three rows of seats, with the last row folding with just the press of a button. With both this and the second row folded, it boasts 2,075 liters of cargo space. Plus, the rear loading lip has been reduced by 46 millimeters allowing for a more convenient loading. The rear tailgate features power actuation as well and can be operated hands-free; a kick or sweeping motion underneath the center of the rear bumper is enough to open or close the tailgate.

Currently, Audi Philippines is offering just one engine for the Q7 and that’s the award-winning 3.0-liter TDI V6 engine good for 272 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque. This power is transmitted through an 8-speed automatic and then to the standard quattro all-wheel drive system. A gasoline variant will soon follow with 2.0-liters of displacement. This engine offers 252 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque.

Safety is always paramount to the all-new Audi Q7 and it comes with a multitude of both active and passive safety features such as Multi-Collision Brake Assist System and Audi Pre-Sense. The former initiates braking automatically in case of an accident to reduce the risk of skidding and mitigate greater damage while the latter puts tension on the seatbelts and closes the windows and sunroof when the system detects a dangerous situation leading to a collision. The Q7 also comes with Audi Pre-Sense City which gives predictive warning and emergency breaking for accident avoidance and pedestrian safety for speeds up to 85 km/h.

  1. The previous model looks like an suv. The new one looks like a wagon version of an audi sedan. I prefer the old look.

    1. I dont know how the previous model looks but I agree this one looks like a station wagon. I'm not a fan of station wagons and hatches and for this reason I dont like how this new model looks. I can't afford it either but I'm not sourgraping here.
