Honda Cars Philippines Ends 2015 on High with Preview of 2016 CR-Z Sports Hybrid

On a high after celebrating record-breaking sales for 2015 as well as their 25th anniversary in the country, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) held a surprise preview of the 2016 CR-Z sports hybrid, further providing the brand’s solid direction next year.

Mechanically, the 2016 CR-Z remains unchanged with tractive effort provided by a 1.5-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine mated to an IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) electric hybrid system. The CR-Z’s fun-to-drive, yet environmentally-friendly attitude is heightened by a choice of either a 6-speed manual or CVT transmission. And like before, it continues to boast the 3-Mode Drive system that alters certain parameters of the car to improve efficiency or performance.

New to the 2016 CR-Z’s engine though is the adoption of an Active Noise Control (ANC) with Active Sound Control (ASC) system. Using the stereo speakers, engine sound is reduced or enhanced depending on which mode is selected. In both ECO and Normal modes, the system cancels unwanted engine noise making the interior quieter than it was, while in Sport mode, it allows more engine noise to permeate the cabin.

Although the CR-Z can accelerate similarly to V6-powered cars, it’s better known for its sure-footed and spirited handling. For 2016, though it continues with new 17-inch alloy wheels (albeit with a new design) and a widened rear track that improves stability and control, especially during hard driving.

Outside, it gets a revised new front and rear bumpers. The front clip looks visually widened thanks to the blade-like diffusers that sweep up from the center and dissects the front corners forming triangular front fog lamp light wells. Also new is a standard two-tone color package for certain colors including the new Helios Yellow Pearl, Milano Red, and Premium White Pearl. The Brilliant Sporty Blue Metallic and Polished Metal Metallic remain with a monotone scheme.

Inside, is where majority of the changes occur to the new CR-Z. It now gets a passive entry system with push button engine start/stop, a 7-inch touch screen display with navigation, and a reverse parking camera. The new electric parking brake (EPB) also allows for the addition of a center arm rest.

The 2016 Honda CR-Z will be available for deliveries starting in January 2016 with pricing to be announced real soon however HCPI revealed that if ever there will be a price increase, it will be minimal.
